About Offerwall messages (Beta)

Offerwall messages allow your site visitors to choose alternative ways to support your site and gain access to your content, such as viewing a rewarded ad or paying a fee.

Offerwall messages can help you:

  • Boost your revenue from your most engaged users.
  • Efficiently monetize users who frequently visit your site, opening up additional revenue streams.

Example of an Offerwall giving the user the choice to watch an ad in exchange for access to site content, followed by example of a Rewarded ad shown after the user chose to watch from the Offerwall, followed by example of additional site content rewarded to the user for choosing to watch an ad

How Offerwall messages work

Preview and configure Offerwall messages in the Privacy & messaging message builder.

Diagram of the configurable components that make up an Offerwall, described in text on this page
  1. Offerwall: The main screen of your Offerwall message. Displays an overview of the user choices you select in the message builder and instructs site visitors to make a selection to continue accessing your site's content.

  2. Logo (recommended): Your site's logo. To include a logo here, add a logo to your site.

  3. Body text: Customizable copy for your message.

  4. User choices: The list of user choices you have selected for your Offerwall. User choices allow site visitors to choose how they access your site content.

When site visitors click a user choice on your Offerwall, they will be shown a screen where they can take action to complete the user choice (for example, by viewing a rewarded ad). The available user choice screens shown in the message builder preview depend on which user choices you've selected. You can also configure an editable confirmation message displayed to site visitors who select and complete one of the user choices.

How you can manage your Offerwall

You can control exactly where, when, and how your Offerwall message is shown to visitors on your site. Use URL inclusions and exclusions to target and customize your Offerwall messages so that they only appear on specific pages of your site.

You can also set thresholds to determine when site visitors will see the Offerwall message within a certain period of time, helping guard against showing the message too often.

How do I test my Offerwall?

Test an Offerwall message by appending the testing parameters to the URL of a site tagged to display messages using a Google Publisher Tags (GPT) ad tag. To test your message:
  1. Publish an Offerwall message to a page on your site. You can use inclusions and exclusions to limit the published Offerwall to a specific URL for testing.
  2. Navigate to the site page.
  3. In your browser’s address bar, append the ?fc=alwaysshow&fctype=monetization query parameter to the page URL.
    Example
An example URL with the query parameter appended:
    http://example.com/sports.html?fc=alwaysshow&fctype=monetization
  4. The Offerwall message currently published on your site will be displayed.

When testing your messages, keep the following in mind:

  • The purpose of the query parameters is to preview the "look and feel" of the Offerwall message as displayed on the selected site page. After previewing the message, you may decide to go back and make changes to the colors, fonts, or language of the message.
  • To display the message for testing, the message needs to be published to your site and the Google Publisher Tag (GPT) needs to be located on the page.
  • We suggest testing the message in a browser that clears cookies, such as Chrome in incognito mode.
Your Offerwall may still be blocked if an ad blocker is in use. Learn more about troubleshooting blocked user messages.

How do I tag my site with the Google Publisher Tag (GPT) to display messages?

The Google Publisher Tag (GPT) is required for your site to display messages, including Offerwall messages. Ensure you tag your site with GPT to display messages to users.

How do I run an experiment on my Offerwall message?

Set up and run an experiment on your Offerwall to understand how it may perform when it's fully implemented on your site.
