Ad Exchange in Google Ad Manager

You can access various Ad Exchange features throughout the Ad Manager interface.

If you have trouble finding an Ad Exchange feature in Ad Manager, or if you're encountering errors related to permissions, settings, or configurations, confirm you have the required permissions and that your settings are correctly configured. For example, without the appropriate permissions or settings, issues may result such as errors saving changes, the inability to edit deal settings, or a lack of access to features such as orders.

Where to find Ad Exchange features in Ad Manager

Why don't I see Ad Exchange features in my Ad Manager network?
Access to Ad Exchange features in Ad Manager is controlled by user role permissions. Contact your Ad Manager network administrator to ensure you have the appropriate Ad Exchange user permissions under "Trafficking and delivery."

Some networks may use the Ad Exchange manager role to access Ad Exchange functionality.

Ad Exchange features are found throughout the Google Ad Manager interface. Refer to the table below as a guide to finding an Ad Exchange feature in Ad Manager. You can also use global search to find features within Ad Manager.

User roles and permissions

Specific user roles and permissions support access to Ad Exchange features in Ad Manager.

Ad Exchange user role permissions

Permissions related to Ad Exchange control whether a user can see or use Ad Exchange features in Google Ad Manager.

Under the "Traffic and delivery" category, several permissions are available:

  • Access Ad Exchange interface
  • View Ad Exchange experiments
  • Edit Ad Exchange experiments
  • Review and block Ad Exchange creatives

Under "Access to Ad Manager tabs," the "Ad Exchange" permission displays all Ad Exchange interface features and settings in Google Ad Manager. For example, users can access the "Billing" section in Ad Manager to see Ad Exchange payments information, but will not see Ad Manager billing information unless the specific Ad Manager "Billing" permission is also granted.

Administrator user role required

Requires permission

The "Ad Exchange" permission is required to create and edit users or roles that contain these permissions.

If you aren't an administrator, you can learn more about this role and what to do next.

Built-in user roles

Review the differences between the "Ad Exchange manager" and the "Administrator" user roles. To learn more, visit about built-in user roles

  • Ad Exchange manager
This user role contains active Ad Exchange users who did not have access to Google Ad Manager on September 12, 2016. Users within this role have access to all Ad Exchange features in Ad Manager, but can't create new Ad Exchange managers or access non-Ad Exchange features. New Ad Exchange users now need to be created in Ad Manager by adding them to this user role.

  • Administrator (Ad Manager only)
This user role is intended to be used for any administrator who should not have access to Ad Exchange features and should not be able to create or edit roles that provide access to Ad Exchange features.

Changes to previous user roles

Any user in a custom or non-administrator Ad Manager user role who had access to both Ad Exchange and Google Ad Manager (named DFP at the time) on September 12, 2016* has been moved into a copied user role with "and Ad Exchange manager" appended to the user role name.

These user role copies contain all of the original user role permissions plus the new Ad Exchange permissions.

Example
Traffickers in Ad Manager who also have access to Ad Exchange are removed from the "Trafficker" role and added to a new role called "Trafficker and Ad Exchange manager."
This also applies to custom roles. If an Ad Exchange user is assigned to a custom Ad Manager user role called "Trafficker EMEA," that user is removed from "Trafficker EMEA" and added to a new user role called "Trafficker EMEA and Ad Exchange manager."

* This date may differ for publishers who participated in the early-access beta phase of this feature.
