AI Overviews when you search with an image or Circle to Search

You may find AI Overviews in your search results when you search with an image or use Circle to Search in countries, territories and languages where AI Overviews are available.

Show only web links in Google Search

AI Overviews are a core Google Search feature, like knowledge panels. Features cannot be turned off. However, you can select the Web filter after you perform a search. This filter displays only text-based links without features like AI Overviews.

How AI Overviews work

AI Overviews use generative AI, which is a type of artificial intelligence that learns patterns and structures from the data it is trained on and uses that to create something new. While exciting, this technology is rapidly evolving and improving, and may provide inaccurate or offensive information. AI Overviews can and will make mistakes.

How to double-check responses:

  • Always check important info in more than one place. Click the links to supporting information from the web and try other Google Search results too. Learn more about how to evaluate info you find with Google.
  • Ask multiple versions of your question to get the best answers. Try asking for different opinions or ask for more details.
  • Send feedback to Google if something doesn’t look right. Your feedback helps us improve AI Overviews for everyone.

How data helps Google develop generative AI in Search

To develop and improve generative AI experiences in Search and the related machine learning technologies, Google uses people's interactions with Search and these AI experiences. This can include interactions like what people search for and what feedback they provide to Google. With user feedback and human reviews, we evaluate and improve the quality of our results and products responsibly.

When trained reviewers work to improve the quality of Search’s machine learning models, we take a number of precautions to protect users’ privacy:

  • Data that reviewers see and annotate are disconnected from users’ accounts.
  • Automated tools help recognize and remove a broad range of identifying info and sensitive personal information.
