Get Preferred Care from the Google Store

When you buy an eligible device from the Google Store or a retail partner, you can also purchase a Preferred Care1 plan.

Preferred Care is an extended warranty plan that you can buy for eligible devices purchased from the Google Store or a retail partner. It offers protection beyond the standard Google warranty.

There are two types of Preferred Care plans:

  • Two-year plan: A one-off payment
  • Monthly plan: Paid monthly for up to 60 months for newer devices (Pixel 7a and later, Pixel Watches and Pixel Tablets) or 36 months for older devices. Monthly plan not available for Fitbit.

Plans are optional and can be cancelled at any time (applicable refund provided). Learn how to cancel your Preferred Care plan.

Both plans include:

  • Coverage for mechanical/electrical breakdowns after the Google warranty expires.
  • Coverage for accidental damage from handling (drops, spills, cracks) on day one.
  • No claim limits for post-warranty mechanical/electrical breakdowns and two claims per rolling 12-month period for accidental damage from handling (max $1,500 per claim).
  • In-store cracked screen repairs for eligible devices.
  • Cracked screen repair service fee is $29. Replacement service fee varies by device ($19–$129). See service fees by device below.
  • Claims may be fulfilled with new or refurbished devices and may be the same model or another model of like kind and quality.
  • For replacements, you can avoid a non-return fee by returning your damaged or malfunctioning device.

How to buy Preferred Care

  • With a new device from the Google Store: Add it to your basket during checkout.
  • Within 30 days of buying a device from Google Store or from a third-party retailer: Check the Preferred Care eligibility page.
    1. Go to the Preferred Care management page: store.google.com/preferred_care.
    2. Locate the device order that you'd like to add Preferred Care to and click Review and buy.
    3. Once Preferred Care is purchased, a new order will be generated with a separate email confirmation.
  • For Fitbit Ace LTE: Preferred Care can also be added through the Fitbit Ace app within 30 days of purchase.

Important details:

  • Claim limits: There are limits on accidental damage claims (usually two per year).
  • Service fees/deductibles: You'll pay a fee for repairs or replacements.
  • Exclusions: Preferred Care doesn't cover everything (e.g. intentional damage, abuse, losses covered by the manufacturer's warranty).

Product damage

Covers product damage or hardware failures due to:

  • Liquid resistance failure
  • Screen failure

Hardware failure

Covers your item from hardware failure due to manufacturer's defects in material and workmanship after Google's warranty expires.

Failure to locate (monthly plan only)

For users outside of Quebec with Pixel 8 or newer phones, the monthly plan also includes failure to locate coverage.

Protect your phone by activating Find My Device when you receive your new device. If your covered device is missing and Find My Device fails to locate it, Preferred Care will cover your device replacement.
