Changes to your card information with Google

You can refer to this article about your purchases on Google Ads, Cloud, Workspace, YouTube, Play, and other paid Google services in India.

There are changes with the rules on how your card information is saved per Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Since October 1, 2022, Google can no longer save your card details like card number and expiry date in the current format. If you let us and when you use one or more service providers, we’ll save your card details in a format that complies with RBI rules. We keep your sensitive card details secure.

  • If you use Visa or Mastercard: To allow us to save your card in the new format, you must make a single manual payment with your current card. To ensure you don't have to enter your card info again, complete the payment by September 30, 2022. If we can't save your Visa or Mastercard in a compliant format by September 30, 2022, you have to enter your card info every time you pay.
  • If you use RuPay, American Express, Discover, or Diners Card: We won’t save your card info after September 30, 2022, since these cards aren't supported by the new format yet. On October 1, 2022, the support for these cards will change across Google services.

Use RuPay, American Express, Diners, or Discover card

    • Google Ads
    • Cloud

    • Play Store
    • YouTube
    • Domains
  • You can still use RuPay cards on Google Cloud, Workspace, and Ads. You must enter your card info every time you pay.
Know why you have to enter your card details for every payment

This can happen for different reasons and depends on your card network.

  • Visa or Mastercard
    • There can be a technical problem. To resolve, try again.
    • This card type can't be saved per RBI rules.
  • RuPay

Find which banks and cards you can save and use

You can use and save visa cards and master cards on Google in India.

RuPay cards can't be saved yet. You can enter your card details every time you use them on Google Cloud, Workspace, and Ads.

American Express, Diners, and Discover can't be saved and used on most Google services in India like:

  • Google Ads
  • Cloud
  • Workspace
  • Play Store
  • Youtube
  • Domains
Replace your card once it expires, damaged, or lost

If your saved card is no longer available, you must add the new card info to use it to Google.

Fix error: “The card you’re trying to use is already being used for a transaction in a different currency. Please try using another card.”
This happens when:
  • You try to use a card that falls under RBI rules to buy something in a different currency.
  • You have a subscription that's in a different currency and you try to buy something in Indian rupees.

If you encounter either of the above, use a different card or payment method. You can create a new payment profile and try to use the same card.
