Transfer from an Android device to a Pixel Tablet
Transfer data from your Android device to your new Pixel Tablet in a few steps. You can move data like photos, videos, contacts, and apps from your existing device to your new Pixel Tablet.
Important: If your data storage is full based on your device’s capacity, data transfer could pause. Be sure to check your storage capacity before you start data transfer.

*If you choose “Express” on the "Choose how to copy" screen during setup, it only copies data that’s not available in your Google account.
If you have cloud sync enabled, you can find these when you sign in to your Google Account on your Pixel Tablet:
- Email
- Contacts
- Calendar events
- Passwords from Google Password Manager (if you use the same Google Account)
- Synced photos, videos, music, and recordings
- Any other information associated with your Google Account
You can also transfer other services data:
- Non-Google accounts and their data, including contacts and calendar events
- LINE contacts and full history of chat conversations (if you backed up your contacts and history)
- WhatsApp chat history
- Your subscription services such as Spotify or Fitbit
Important: You need to sign into the service on your Pixel Tablet to transfer data.
What won't copy during setup
Important: Some third-party apps and data may not be transferred automatically.
- Downloads, like PDF files
- Photos, videos, and music stored in hidden or locked folders
- Apps that aren’t from the Google Play Store
- Data from apps that don't use Android backup
- Accounts other than Google Accounts and their data
- Contacts and calendars synced to services other than Google
- Ringtones
- Certain phone settings (varies by phone and Android version)
Transfer data to your new Pixel Tablet
Important:
- You need a Google Account to download apps. Some content won't copy to your Pixel Tablet without one.
- If you have a Charging Speaker Dock, make sure to undock your Pixel Tablet before you transfer data from another device using a cable. Learn how to undock your Pixel Tablet.
Make sure you have the following:
- Fully charged Android device on the latest software. Learn how to update Android.
- New and charged Pixel Tablet
- Charging cable
- Strong Wi-Fi connection
You're ready to set up your new tablet:
- Turn on your Pixel Tablet
tap Get started.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Important: You need to be connected to a network for data to copy from your old device.
You can connect your devices to transfer data to your new Pixel device with:
- Your old device with a cable (recommended)
- A cloud backup
- A Wi-Fi connection
Copy data from your old device with a cable
- On your Pixel Tablet:
- Tap Start.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
- When asked to “Copy Apps & Data,” tap Next Copy your data.
- When asked to “Use your other device,” tap Next.
- Turn on and unlock your current Android device.
- Plug one end of your Android charging cable into your Android device.
- Plug the cable's other end into your Pixel Tablet or into the Quick Switch Adapter and plug the adapter into your Pixel Tablet.
Tip: Don't have a cable? You can transfer some of your data wirelessly.
- On your Android device, tap Trust.
- On your Pixel Tablet, choose how to copy your data.
- To copy your data in 5 minutes, tap Express.
- Tip: Only data that’s not available in your Google Account will be copied.
- To copy some data, tap Customize.
- Turn off what you don't want.
- Ta p Copy.
- When your transfer is finished, you can use your device.
Tip: Some apps need time to download and install to show up.
Copy data from a cloud backup
- On your Pixel Tablet:
- Tap Start.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
- When asked to “Copy Apps & Data,” tap Next.
- When asked to “Use your other device,” tap Can’t use other device.
- Follow the on-screen steps to log in to your Google Account and access your backup.
Copy data with Wi-Fi
Important: You can only transfer data with Wi-Fi if your current device is an Android device running Android 5 or later.
- On your Pixel Tablet:
- Tap Start.
- Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
- When asked to “Copy Apps & Data,” tap Next Copy your data.
- When asked to “Use your other device,” tap Next.
- When asked to “Find your other device’s cable,” tap No cable?
- In the notification, tap Copy without cable.
- Turn on and unlock your old device.
- On your other device, open the notification to set up your new device.
- On your Pixel Tablet, choose how to copy your data.
- To copy your data in 5 minutes, tap Express.
- Tip: Only data that’s not available in your Google Account will be copied.
- To copy some data, tap Customize.
- Turn off what you don't want.
- Tap Copy.
- When your transfer is done, you can use your device.
Get more tips and support
The data transfer process can take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour. While you wait, you can manage other settings, like Fingerprint Unlock or Google Assistant. To set them up later, tap Skip.
