Fix errors when setting up your Performance Max campaigns

This guide helps you to troubleshoot errors when you set up your Performance Max campaigns.

Errors Troubleshooting steps
No assets were added and no feed was attached to your campaign

If you weren’t able to upload assets or attach a product feed to your campaign, your campaign won’t serve. Make sure that you do the following:

No conversion goals or missing local actions

Make sure that you create and add a conversion goal to your campaigns.

  • Check conversion goals: Navigate to Goals > Summary. Verify that your primary conversion actions, like "Calls from Ads", or "Local Actions", like "Get Directions" and "Store Visits", are active and correctly assigned. Remove any incompatible goals that may conflict with the bidding algorithm. Learn more About conversion goals and how to Create campaign-specific conversion goals.
Missing or inactive location assets

If you’re missing local conversion data or ads aren't appearing on Maps, ensure your account is properly set up.

  • Verify Google Business Profile (GBP) link: Ensure your Google Ads account is linked and the location status in GBP is "Active". Inactive locations will prevent location assets from syncing.
  • Enable location assets: Go to Campaigns > Assets. Ensure location assets are turned on and check for filters, like label or business name mismatches, that might prevent your locations from syncing.

Your account has exceeded entity limit

This error means that there are more than 100 Performance Max campaigns in your account or your asset group has exceeded the number of asset limits. Learn more About your Google Ads account limits.

To help you solve this, you can:

Low impressions or ads not serving

If your campaign setup is complete but ads aren't serving as expected, check for the following:

  • Learning phase: Significant changes to budget, bidding strategy, like Target CPA or Target ROAS, or geographic targeting trigger a “Bid strategy learning” phase. Wait for 7-14 days for the AI to stabilize before making further modifications.
  • Targeting and assets: Ensure geographic radius and ad schedules are not too restrictive. Improve your Ad Strength to “Good” or “Excellent” by adding the maximum number of high-quality headlines, descriptions, and assets to your asset groups.
“An error occurred. Please try again later.” shows under Final URL

If you have attached a product feed to your campaign, the Final URL of your campaign should match the Merchant Center account URL. Learn more about how to Link a Google Ads account to Merchant Center and Google Merchant Center feed integration in AI image editor.

If you haven’t linked your Google Ads account to a Merchant Center account and no product feed is attached to your campaign, you should discontinue the existing Performance Max draft campaign and create a new one.
