Explore the redesigned Fitbit app

Important: This experience is currently in Public Preview. Some features require a Fitbit Premium subscription.

When you use Fitbit Public Preview, you get to try a redesigned Fitbit app. The new app makes it easier to find what you’re looking for, so you can quickly find and track your progress towards your sleep, fitness, and health goals. You can review your health data and take action by using the 4 tabs at the bottom of your phone's screen: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health.

Today tab

The Today tab in the Fitbit app is where you receive helpful insights and guidance based on all of your health data.

Metrics Dashboard

You'll have quick access to the metrics you care about most, such as steps, weekly cardio load, readiness, calories, and sleep.

To customize your metrics:

  1. On the Today tab , tap Edit Edit pencil.
  2. Select one of the displayed metrics you want to replace.
  3. Find the metric you want to add and tap it.
  4. Tap Save.
Messages from your coach (Fitbit Premium only)
You will receive personalized messages that adapt to you throughout the day.
Examples of messages you may receive:
  • Start your day right with a morning message about how well you slept and how physically ready you are for the day ahead.
  • After a workout, you’ll get a breakdown of your performance and tips for how to improve.
  • In the evening you'll receive a recap of your day, including info about how your body responded to your activities and progress towards your fitness plan (if you have one).

Fitness tab Fitness tab

The Fitness tab is where you can track your activities, explore the workout video library, and dive into metrics like weekly cardio load. If you have Fitbit Premium, the Fitness tab is also home to the personalized weekly fitness plan that you create with your coach.

Important: This feature offers general guidance supporting your fitness journey. If you have cardiovascular, metabolic, or renal disease, or are unaccustomed to strenuous activity, consult a doctor before starting any Fitbit exercise program. You should consider seeking medical clearance before participating in any exercise program offered by the Fitbit Service.

Create a fitness plan with personal health coach (Fitbit Premium only)

Important: You must have Fitbit app version 4.68 or higher.

We've listened to your feedback and have revamped our fitness plans to provide a more flexible coaching experience.

These changes include:

  • Personalized weekly targets: Instead of a set schedule, you’ll now get personalized weekly targets based on your health goals. If a target feels too demanding or causes pain, listen to your body and adjust your goals.
  • Tailored workouts: Coach provides tailored workouts to help you reach each target or you can do it your own way; you can now complete these with step-by-step guidance.
  • Plan retirement: Previous scheduled plans are being removed but you can still download or delete your completed plans.
    • To export your data:
      • In the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture and then Fitbit settings Settings app.
      • Tap Manage data and privacy and then Export your data and then Export your data.
      • Follow the instructions to export your selected data.

Chat with the coach to create a personalized plan

Your coach starts with a conversation about your goals, your challenges, and where you are with your health journey.

  1. Once you've joined Public Preview, continue to “Chat with Coach”.
  2. Answer the coach’s questions about your goals, where you're starting from, and co-create a plan that's personalized for you to progress towards your goals.
  3. At the end of the conversation, you’ll find the personalized plan setup in the Fitness tab.

Your coach provides fitness suggestions. Always progress at a pace that feels sustainable for you.

Tip: The information you provide is stored in the conversation transcripts. Tap Ask Health and then History.

Follow your workouts and workout plan from your coach (Fitbit Premium only)

At the top of the Fitness tab, you can find your plan for the week, which includes your weekly targets and an associated set of recommended workouts.

Coach guidance: Before you start a workout, the coach provides a fully personalized explanation with the routine organized into custom segments like warm up, cool down, core, upper body, and more.

  • Interactive execution: As you complete a workout, check off your exercises one by one and log your reps and weights directly in the app.
  • View options: Workouts default to a full-screen interactive view. You can minimize this player to get the full workout as a list and check off individual exercises as you go.
  • Workout feedback: As you finish, rate your workout to indicate session difficulty. This feedback helps your coach provide more personalized recommendations in the future.
  • Save workouts: You can save your favorite workouts from the coach by selecting the bookmark icon at the top of the workout overview. You can then access these workouts in ‘Saved workouts’.

Merging a completed workout started on a device & mobile

If you tracked a workout on your watch without starting the guided phone experience, you can still merge those recorded metrics with your coach's planned session afterward. This allows you to see your actual performance data and the intended workout structure in a single, unified view.

  1. In the Fitness tab, tap the recommended workout you completed.
  2. On the workout overview page, tap I have done this workout.
  3. Select the recorded session from your activity history to link it.
Adjust your plan or workouts conversationally (Fitbit Premium only)

Soon you will be able to adjust your plan, including your targets and workouts, at any time by talking to the coach directly.

To adjust your plan conversationally, simply tell the coach what you need:

  • "I’m traveling this week, can we adjust my plan accordingly?"
  • "Make this workout longer" or "Make it easier"
  • "The treadmill is busy today"
  • "I’ve injured my foot"

Important: Do not rely on the coach to determine the safety of an exercise if you are in pain. Seek professional advice as needed.

You can manually adjust the details of any structured workout to better fit your goals for the session before or during the workout.

  1. In the Fitbit app, tap the Fitness tab.
  2. Tap on your active plan to open the plan details screen.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap Leave plan to end your active coaching session.
Check your weekly cardio target
The Fitbit app now uses a personalized weekly cardio target instead of a daily target. This lets you plan your workouts more flexibly around your schedule while ensuring you get accurate training guidance.

On the Today tab , your weekly cardio ring closes as you earn cardio load throughout the week. The amount of cardio load you’ve added for the day is inside the blue ring. The percentage in the middle of the ring is the overall progress you’ve made toward your weekly target, and the total cardio load you’ve earned for the week is at the bottom.

A weekly target helps smooth out day-to-day changes in your cardio load so that you can focus on making consistent progress over time, rather than hitting a specific number each day. It also gives you more flexibility. If you have a busy day or feel sick, you can make up the load later in the week.

Weekly Cardio Load

Your weekly cardio load target is set based on your recent activity and fitness. For Premium users, the coach dynamically adjusts this target to align with your training focus and plan, reflecting whether you are in a recovery, maintain, or build state.

This ensures the cardio load target aligns with the coach's recommendations (for example, goals and workouts).

Consistently hitting your target builds your overall fitness, while exceeding it can help you reach even greater gains. To keep you safe from injury and fatigue, Fitbit will alert you if you push yourself too hard.

You’ll get your first personalized weekly cardio target once you wear your device and earn cardio load. It could take up to 14 days to get your first score.

Sleep tab Sleep tab

The Sleep tab is home to your detailed sleep data, measured by an updated algorithm. You’ll find your sleep duration, awake time, time in sleep stages, and sleep score.

If you have Fitbit Premium, you’ll also find personalized insights to help you improve your sleep quality. You can ask your coach for tips on optimizing your sleep habits, and manage and review your sleep schedule for consistency.
New sleep algorithm
The sleep algorithm has been updated to give you a more accurate and complete picture of your rest. This includes:
  • Better "Time to Sleep" tracking: Your device can more accurately tell the difference between relaxing (like reading a book) and actually trying to fall asleep. This means your "Time in Bed" will more closely match your real sleep habits.
  • More accurate sleep stages: The updated algorithm can more accurately categorize a wider variety of sleep patterns and schedules.

New sleep score

The updated Sleep Score transforms your nightly data into a transparent, holistic map of your rest, using personalized insights to help you understand exactly what’s driving your score and how to improve it.
  • More transparent metrics: You can now see exactly how specific factors—such as total sleep duration, time to sound sleep, and restlessness—impacted your daily score, removing the guesswork behind why your number changed.
  • Holistic sleep view: Our updated algorithms now unify your entire night into a single journey, accounting for everything from how quickly you settle into deep sleep to minor interruptions and total sleep satisfaction.
  • Personalized coach-led insights: Beyond just a score, you will receive actionable advice from the coach to help you improve your sleep. Note this is available to Premium users only.
  • A new score baseline: Because this update uses a more high-definition view of your rest and captures a more detailed picture of your night, you may notice your Sleep Score shift to a new baseline.

To learn more about the improved sleep score, see our blog post.

Note:

  • If you ask your coach about your new Sleep Score, you may receive inaccurate details regarding your Sleep Score sub-metrics. This is a known issue, and we’re working to resolve it soon.
  • Your Sleep Score on your device may not match the new Sleep Score you’re seeing in the app. This is a known issue that we’re planning to fix soon. In the meantime, the Sleep Score in your app is the most accurate.
Sleep metrics & insights

The Sleep tab offers detailed information about your sleep summary, sleep stages, and sleep score.

  • Learn more about Fitbit sleep score
  • Learn more about Sleep Stages
  • Edit Your Sleep (Android only): You can now edit your Sleep logs in Public Preview
    • From the Sleep tab, tap on your sleep summary from last night, tap on the 3 dots, and tap Edit Sleep.
    • Please provide feedback on any issues you experience.
    • This feature will be available on iOS soon.

VO2 max (formerly cardio fitness score)

VO2 max (formerly known as cardio fitness score) estimates the maximum amount of oxygen your body can use during exercise. It is a strong predictor of your endurance, overall cardio health, and longevity. The higher your VO2 max, the more fit you are.

How to get your first VO2 max

Fitbit now measures VO2 max only during outdoor runs with GPS enabled and does not currently measure VO2 max while you’re walking, biking, or on the treadmill.

To get your first VO2 max, track a 10-minute outdoor run. If you don’t see VO2 max after one run, you may need to track up to three runs in 30 days. Make sure that you manually start a run on your device before you begin, since activity detection does not use GPS. It’s best to run on flat and unobstructed terrain, like around a track or park.

Best VO2 max accuracy

Once you’ve unlocked VO2 max, wear your device while sleeping and log a 10-minute outdoor run with GPS enabled at least once every six weeks for the best accuracy.

Ask your coach for guidance

Use Ask Health to go deeper on your VO2 max measurement, understand how your runs impact your score, and get personalized tips for improvement.

To delete nutrition or hydration data you synced from third-party apps like Health Connect, delete the data directly in the third-party app. This makes sure the deletions sync correctly between both the Fitbit app and the third-party app.

Custom foods previously added in the Fitbit app cannot be deleted within the Public Preview version of the Fitbit app at this time. To manage or delete these items, switch back to the publicly available Fitbit app.

Fix duplicate meals

Some third-party apps may report the same meal through multiple connections. For example, a connected app may log what you’ve eaten directly to the Fitbit app, then log it again via Health Connect. If you find the same meal listed multiple times in the Fitbit app, review your connected sources to choose how you sync your data.

Step 1: Check which nutrition apps you’ve connected in Health Connect

  1. Open the Fitbit app Fitbit app.
  2. Tap Devices and then Apps and Services and then Under “Settings,” tap Manage Health Connect.
  3. Under “Settings,” tap Manage data & access .

  4. To stop a nutrition app from logging your food multiple times:
    1. From the “Connect apps” page, tap the name of the app and then Disconnect.
    2. This will stop the app from logging food directly in the Fitbit app, but still allow the app to log food via Health Connect.

Health Connect

Connect third-party apps and devices to Public Preview with Health Connect.

Important: Fitbit cannot guarantee the accuracy of data or algorithms from third-party

Set up Health Connect in the Fitbit app

To connect third-party apps to Public Preview:

  • Set up Health Connect in both the Fitbit Public Preview app as well as the third-party app.
  • If you encounter issues with missing data, consult your third-party app to ensure that it is connected and sending data.

Certain data types that are available in the publicly available Fitbit app may not be available in the Public Preview version. You can find a full list on the Fitbit Community.

For more information, refer to: How do I use Health Connect in the Fitbit app?

Tip: Your permissions for the Fitbit app apply to the Health Connect public and preview experience, and can be edited or removed at any time.

To transition from the Health Connect preview to the public experience, disable the preview in ”Privacy Center” and then enable the public experience within the Fitbit app.

How your Health Connect data is used
When you connect Health Connect with the Public Preview version of the Fitbit app, your third party data is synced and then securely stored by Fitbit. In some cases, the third party data, including data from Health Connect, may be used as an input in Fitbit’s algorithms.
