With Immersive View in Google Maps on Android XR, you can virtually:
- Fly above cities and landmarks to explore places with labels and place cards in lifelike 3D.
- Explore places to understand their layout, atmosphere, and important sights before your visit, which helps you make better travel decisions.
- Explore select indoor locations.
What you need
To use this feature, you must have Google Maps on your Android XR device.
Get to Immersive View in Google Maps
To switch from the 2D Google Maps interface to Immersive View:
- On your Android XR compatible device, open Home Screen.
- Select the Google Maps app
.
- At the bottom, select Immersive View.
- The 3D Immersive View of your location shows up.
Explore the world in Immersive View
When you’re in Immersive View, use these hand gestures:
- Move or pan: To pull the world towards you, pinch and drag with one hand.
- Zoom or adjust scale: To move closer to or further from the location, pinch with both hands and then move your hands closer or further apart from each other.
- Rotate:
- Pinch and grab the location with both hands.
- Turn your hands like you turn a steering wheel.

Get info on a Point of Interest (POI)
To get more info about a location while you’re in Immersive View:
- In aerial view or Street View, find the floating labels over locations.
- Select the POI label.
- A place card must show up with the place's title and star rating.
- If available, you can find other view options that you can pinch to teleport to that point of view of the location:
- Aerial view
- Street View
- Go inside
- To close the card, select Exit

Enter & navigate Street View
To explore a location through 360° panoramic photos as if you walk on the streets:
- In aerial view, select a location that has Street View content.
- To enter the 360° view, select Street View.
- Move around:
- Point at the next teleport point marked by an X on the ground.
- Select the teleport point.
- Some Street View locations might not have adjacent teleport points.
- Rotate: Use your hand and point at the horizon.
- The pointer changes to a reticle where you can move left or right to change your rotation angle.
- Move around:
- To return to aerial view, from the app menu, select Altitude
.
Explore an indoor 3D location
- In aerial view or Street View, find the special spherical callouts that indicate a location has an available indoor view.
- To open its place card, select the POI.
- On the place card, select Go inside.
- Move or pan: Pinch and drag the point.
- Rotate: Pinch and drag the view.
- Move or pan: Pinch and drag the point.
- To return to aerial view, from the app menu, select Altitude
.
Explore with Gemini Live
Ask questions & search
- Share your view with Gemini Live.
- Press and hold the device action button.
- Ask questions about your current view.
- "Tell me about this building."
- "What are some good restaurants near here?"
- "What's the history of this landmark?"
- "Find me a family-friendly hotel in this neighborhood."
Go to a new location
- Press and hold the device action button.
- To specify where you want to go, use a voice command.
- "Take me to the Eiffel Tower."
- "Go to Tokyo, Japan."
- "Show me the Grand Canyon."
You’ll be transported to an aerial view of the location with the specific POI already selected.
Customize your comfort settings
To keep the comfort setting on, reduce potential motion sickness and enhance your Immersive View experience:
- To display the app menu, look up.
- Select Settings
Comfort.
- Turn on Smaller field of view when moving.
Report data or content errors
To report a problem or request blurring of Street View imagery, open the Google Maps app on any device and report data or content errors.
