Find ads in the Ad review center

This article explains how to find and review specific Ad Exchange ads in the Ad review center.

Use filters or text search

You can find ads by applying filters and entering text. When you search by text, you can use quotation marks to search for an exact match. Text searches may also suggest related filters you can apply.

To apply filters or search by text, follow these steps:

  1. To change the default filters, make your selections:
    • To apply a different "Product" type filter, in the search box, click Product and then select an option, such as "Display" or "Mobile app."
    • To apply a different "Status" filter, in the search box, click Status and then select an option, such as "Unreviewed" or "Blocked."

  2. To search by text, in the search box, enter your search terms, then select an option:
    • Text search: Searches for text that includes your term, in part or whole.
    • Exact match search: Searches for text that exactly matches your term.
Tip: You can begin entering search terms, and then select a filter to apply them to. For example, if you enter "Cars," the menu may suggest "General ad categories: Cars & trucks."
  3. To apply a filter, click  and then:
    1. Select a filter from the menu, such as "Date range."
    2. Enter or select values for the filter, then click Apply.

About the filters

View available filters

You can apply filters to find ads. Note that some filtering options are hidden and may not appear until you begin typing in the search field.

Text search

  • Text search: Find ads with matching ad text or destination URLs.
  • Exact match search: Find exact matches for phrases in ad text or destination URLs. If you put your search terms in quotation marks, the exact match search applies. For example, enter "App store" and then select the "Exact match search."
  • Related to ad: Find ads related to search details you enter, such as a creative ID. This filter is similar to using the "Related ads" tab in the detail view of an ad.

Filters

  • Date range: Filter ads based on the date that an ad received at least a small number of impressions. Use the date range selector to choose which dates you want to filter on.
Note: Date range is based on Pacific Standard Time (PST).
  • Saved searches: Select from a list of saved searches you previously set up.
  • Deal ID: Filter ads by publisher deal by entering the deal ID.
  • Publisher application: Filter ads based on which of your apps they appeared in.
  • Publisher domain: Filter ads based on the inventory where they served.
  • Newest ads: Search for ads that have served to your inventory within the last 30 days.
  • Ad network: Filter for ads from a specific ad network. The "ad network" filter classifies bidders into the following categories: Authorized Buyers, Open Bidding, SDK bidding, and others to allow you to easily find the desired ad network.
Note: The "Ad network" filter only shows ads from real-time bidding (RTB). It can't be combined with the "language" filter.
  • Country: Filter ads based on the country where impressions occurred.
Note: The country you filter by might not show in the "detail" view. This is because the country might not be among the top nine countries by impressions, and thus will be included in the "Others" category.
  • Creative ID: Filter for an ad based on its unique identifier.
  • General ad category: Filter ads based on their general category or subcategory.
Note: Our system classifies ads automatically, and we don't rely solely on advertiser-provided categorization. Our technology makes its best attempt to filter ads from the possible categories; however, we don't guarantee that it will filter every related ad.
  • Sensitive ad category: Filter ads based on their sensitive category.
Note: Our system classifies ads automatically, and we don't rely solely on advertiser-provided categorization. Our technology makes its best attempt to filter ads from the possible categories; however, we don't guarantee that it will filter every related ad.
  • Ad response ID: The Ad response ID is the value in the responseIdentifier field, which is the unique identifier of an ad response. The responseIdentifier field could be an error, an ad, or a mediation response. Ad Response IDs are available to look up in the Ad review center for 30 days. Learn how to retrieve the Ad Response ID on the Google Developers site for Android and iOS.

  • Language: Filter based on the language that has been detected for ads. To determine ad language, we look at various factors including the landing page of the ad as well as its content, which means you might be served ads with text or audio in a different language from the filter you selected. The list is ordered by the percentage of ads in each language.

Note: This filter only shows ads from the Google Display Network (GDN), so it can't be combined with the "Ad network" filter.

    Example

Imagine you have ads in five languages (English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Japanese), and the distribution totals for each language are: English (20), Spanish (40), Italian (25), Portuguese (5), and Japanese (10). The list would then display the languages in the following (descending) order: Spanish, Italian, English, Japanese, and Portuguese.

  • Size: Filter based on the size of the ads shown on your site. The list is ordered by the percentage of ads of each size. Audio ads appear as the "Audio" ad size.
  • Ad type: Filter by image, text, or rich media ads.
  • Advertiser name: Filter ads based on the name of the advertiser promoting ads as part of your app or site.
  • Advertiser app name: Filter ads based on the name of the app being promoted by the advertiser within your app or site.
  • Labels: Search for ads you tagged with custom labels, such as "Needs review."

Search by image

You can use the Ad review center's image search function to help you find and review image ads. For example, you can upload a picture of a competitor's logo and use it to search for image ads containing their logo.

Images are available to review in the Ad review center for 30 days. For example, if a creative served 31 days ago, it won’t show in the search results.

To search for ads that match an image:

  1. Next to the search box, click Search by image.
Example of image search in Ad review center
  2. Click Choose image and upload your image.

Note: Your image must be a PNG file less than 3MB in size and contain only 1 ad. Ad matches can be identified with an original PNG only.
  3. Review the results. Matches are labeled as ad match or visual match.

About image search results

The Ad review center may find ad matches and visual matches for the ad you're searching for. Ads will be labeled as an "Ad match" or "Visual match" in the search results.

  • Ad match: The instance of the ad you uploaded. The search finds the ad you uploaded based on the ad and time it served. You can then block the ad, or view the source of the ad

An ad match may or may not be visually exact to the uploaded ad. Blocking the ad match can prevent it from showing in your app; however, the ad may still serve from your other ad sources.

  • Visual match: The result is visually exact or very similar to the uploaded ad you're searching for, but may or may not be an exact ad match.
Image search supports most ad types, but might not always return all available image ads.

Search for similar or related ads

You can find similar and related ads to one you’re viewing in the Ad review center. After you locate the similar or related ads, you can take actions, such as marking them as reviewed or blocking them.

Find similar ads

You can search for similar ads by ad network, ad size, ad type, or URL.

  1. In the Ad review center, on an ad card, click More options, then select Find similar ads by.
  2. Select an option, such as "Ad size."

Find related ads

Ads are considered related if they have a similar destination page, or are connected by a similar subject (such as a person, brand, or object).

  1. In the Ad review center, click an ad.
  2. In the detail view, under "Ad info," click Related ads.

Sort ads

To help find ads, you can apply sorting.

  1. In the Ad review center, next to "Sort by," click the menu.
  2. Select an option:
    • Most impressions: Ads are ranked according to the number of impressions that they've received. Using this option means that the ads you review first are the ads that have appeared most often.
    • Prioritized for review: Ads are prioritized based on potentially sensitive content or because we predict they might have a high number of impressions in the future. Using this option means you review the most important ads first.
    • Highest click-through rate: Ads are ranked according to the number of clicks they've received. Using this option means you review the ads with the highest click-through rate first.
Note: Different sorting options may show based on the filters you apply. For example, if you set your "Status" filter to "Allowed," sorting by "Prioritized for review" doesn't show, since the ads have already been marked as allowed.
