Understand types of posts

Text posts

To create a text post, enter your message in the text box on the Posts tab of your channel. You can post your text by itself or with a video, image or GIF. Text posts can't be combined with polls.

Playlist posts

You can post playlists from artists that you enjoy. Open the playlist that you'd like to share and copy the URL. Paste the playlist URL in the text field when creating your post.

Image and GIF posts

You can choose to upload up to five images with your post. Click image to select images or animated GIFs from your computer.

You can also add text, stickers and filters to your image post through the YouTube app.

Guidelines

  • Size: Up to 16 MB
  • File types: JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP
  • Suggested aspect ratio: We suggest 1:1 ratio because that's how images are shown in the feed. Viewers can see the full image by clicking to expand it.

Bear in mind that images must follow YouTube Community Guidelines. If images violate Community Guidelines, your post may be removed and a strike may be applied to the channel.

Video posts

If you choose to add a video to your post, you can:

  • Search for a YouTube video
  • Paste in a YouTube video URL
  • Select a video from your YouTube channel

When you create a post that shares a video by another creator, a notification may be sent to the original uploader of the video. This notification helps creators to acknowledge when other creators are sharing their videos.

Note: Posts about a video already in a viewer's Subscription or Home feed might not be shown again. This setting prevents your viewers from seeing the same video repeatedly.

Polls

If you choose to add a poll to your post:

  1. Select either Text or Image poll.
  2. For Text polls:
    1. Enter a question in the 'Ask your community...' field.
    2. Enter answers in the 'Add option' fields within 65 characters each.
    3. Click Add another option to add up to four answers.
  3. For Image polls:
    1. Enter a question in the 'Ask your community...' field.
    2. Upload images as answers, and add captions within 36 characters in the 'Option' fields.
    3. Click Add option to add up to four images.

Quizzes

If you choose to add a quiz to your post:

  1. Enter a question in the text field.
  2. Enter answers in the 'Answer' fields. Answers can be up to 80 characters each.
  3. If you need more answer fields, tap Add answer. You can have up to four answers.
  4. Select the correct answer. You can add an optional explanation for why this is the correct answer in the text field. Explanations can be a maximum of 350 characters.
Note: You can only have one correct answer on quizzes.

Manage your activity

You can go to and manage a history of your activity on posts. This feature is only available on a computer.

  1. Go to YouTube.com.
  2. On the left, click History.
  3. On the right, click Posts.
  4. To edit or delete an activity, hover over it, click More and then Edit or Delete.
Note: A history of posts that you've opened is only kept for 30 days.
