Manage YouTube notifications

YouTube notifications let you know when there are new videos and updates from your favourite channels and other content. We'll send you notifications for channels that you're subscribed to and may also send notifications based on your interests. You can customise how many of these notifications you get and which kinds.

Subscribe to the YouTube viewers channel for the latest news, updates and tips.
Note: Notification settings may differ slightly by device and not every new upload will result in a notification. Before managing your notifications, make sure that YouTube notifications are turned on for your device. If you aren't getting notifications but should be, take a look at these troubleshooting steps.

Change your notification preferences

  1. Sign in to YouTube.
  2. At the top of your screen, click your profile picture .
  3. Click Settings .
  4. Click Notifications.
  5. Under 'General', select the types of mobile and desktop notifications that you want to get.
  6. Under 'Email notifications', choose the types of email notifications that you want to get.

Subscribe to a channel to get notifications

When you subscribe to a channel, you'll automatically get personalised notifications with personalised highlights from that channel. You can change your notification settings from Personalised to All notifications to receive more notifications, or you can choose None if you don't want notifications.

  1. Go to the channel page or watch page.
  2. If you're not subscribed, click Subscribe. When you subscribe to a channel, you'll automatically get personalised notifications.
  3. Click the notification bell to switch between getting 'All notifications' and 'Personalised notifications'.
  • All notifications : You'll get mobile, web or inbox notifications for long-form uploads and live streams. You may also get some personalised notifications for Shorts, based on your subscriptions and watch history.
  • Personalised notifications : You'll get notifications for some uploads, Shorts and live streams. The definition of 'personalised' differs by user. YouTube uses various signals to decide when to send you notifications. This info includes your watch history, how often you watch certain channels, how popular some videos are and how often you open notifications.

If you unsubscribe and then re-subscribe to a channel, your notification settings will be reset to personalised or no notifications. If you'd like to get a notification for every upload, make sure that you turn on all notifications.

You won't get notifications if a channel's content is set as Made for Kids. Also, the notification bell will be set to no notifications . You can't change this setting.

Check your notifications

  1. In any browser, open YouTube.
  2. At the top of the page, click the notification bell to check notifications.
  3. Select the notification that you're interested in to view the video, comment or post.

While notifications can tell you when there are new videos, share updates from your subscriptions and tell you about content that you might like, you can also check your subscriptions feed to see recently uploaded videos from channels that you're subscribed to.
