Either a parent or a teen can start the process to set up supervision, but both the parent and teen will need to agree to link their accounts before supervision gets turned on. Supervision can be turned off by either a parent or a teen at any time.

Mandatory parental supervision in some regions
Users in certain regions may be required to have parental supervision of their account to create or maintain a YouTube channel.
Regional requirements:
- Brazil: All users under 16 must have parental supervision to create or maintain a YouTube channel.
What this means for you
If you meet the criteria above, you must link your account to a parent to keep using certain features. If you do not set up supervision, the following restrictions may apply:
- If you have a YouTube channel, your channel will no longer be visible to other users, and you will not be able to access it outside of Google Takeout. This includes:
- Uploads
- Comments
- You will not be able to create a new channel until you link with a supervising parent.
- You will be removed from any roles you have on other channels, such as being a manager or co-owner. If other users have roles on your channel, they will be removed.
What you can do
Link your account to a parent
Follow the prompts in the YouTube app, which will appear if your account requires mandatory parental supervision. You can also set up a supervised teen account through Family Center.
Download your data & content
- Go to Google Takeout.
- Under “CREATE A NEW EXPORT,” select the YouTube and YouTube Music checkbox.
- Select Next step.
- Fill out the “Choose file type & destination” form.
- Select Create export.
Learn more about downloading your Google data. Even if you don’t download your data and content, they will be available to you again when you reach the minimum age to have a channel in your region.
Delete your data & content

- Go to myaccount.google.com/youtubeoptions.
- Select I want to permanently delete my content.
- Select the options that apply to you.
- Select Delete my content.
Update your location
If you have moved or believe a different location should be associated with your account, you can submit a request to change your region. If you’re using a supervised kid account, then your family manager, who is the parent who supervises your account, will need to fill out the form for you.
Reinstate your channel
You can reinstate your channel once you meet any of these conditions:
- Set up parental supervision: Once you successfully link your account to a parent, you can unhide your channel and restore your content through your YouTube settings.
- Reach the minimum age in your region: When you reach the required age, you can reinstate your channel and content without supervision requirements.
- Move outside of your region: If you have moved, you can submit a request to change your region.
To re-enable your channel, follow the steps to turn on your channel. Once the steps are completed, your old channel will be reinstated.
FAQs
Is supervision only available for teenagers?
While this account is designed for parents and teenagers (ages 13–17 in most countries and regions), families can also link non-teen accounts in Family Center. It’s up to each family to decide if and how they want to use supervision on YouTube.
If you want to link accounts with someone older than a teen, you can follow the same set-up steps.
You can also set up a supervised kid account for children under 13 (or the relevant age in their country or region).

- The channels that their teen owns and the names of the channels their teen can upload videos to. Parents can view info for these channels such as profile picture, channel banner, handle, bio, and number of subscribers.
- How many public, private, and unlisted videos their teen has uploaded to their channels.
- How many live streams their teen has hosted on their channels.
- How many comments their teen has posted on other videos.
- How many channels their teen subscribes to.

How is a supervised teen account different from a supervised kid account or YouTube Kids?

- YouTube Kids: A separate app with content for kids under 13.
- Supervised kid account: An account parents can set up for kids under 13 (or the relevant age in their country or region) who are ready to use YouTube. Parents can manage their content settings, controls, and more.
- Supervised teen account: A voluntary experience for teens over the age of 13 (or the relevant age in their country or region) that gives parents insight into their teens’ activities and interests on YouTube.
