The Google app sends notifications about topics that you might be interested in like TV shows, sports teams, and trending search topics. The app also sends you updates and alerts you about events like the weather and crises in your area.
You can control what notifications you get from the Google app:
Control how your location is used for notifications
The Google app uses the general area you’re in to send some notifications, such as weather updates and crisis alerts, to ensure they’re relevant and helpful. The Google app also uses general areas where you've used Google sites and apps in the past to help personalize your notifications. Google determines these general areas in the background based on a variety of sources, including your IP address, and depending on your settings, your device’s location and previous activity.
You can control whether the Google app uses your location this way with the “Use current location” setting in your Google app notification settings. To ensure you get important alerts for your location, the “Use current location” setting is turned on by default, but you can turn it off anytime.
Important: When “Use current location” is on, the Google app temporarily saves the general area you’re in so that the app can use your last known location to send you helpful updates. This information is automatically deleted based on Google’s Privacy Policy.
