Use the Google app on Android XR
With the Google app, you can search for any information you want with the use of text, voice, and your camera. You can get quick answers to questions, discover new information, or explore complex topics.
To use the Google app in XR, you need an Android XR-compatible device.
Access the Google app
The Google app is pre-installed on Android devices. If you can’t find or open the app, go to the Play Store and search for the Google app to reinstall or re-enable it. Learn how to reinstall and re-enable Android apps.
Open with the system actions button
- At the top of your home screen, tap the Google app shortcut

- This opens a window with a search box.
- In the search box, you can enter anything you want to look for via text, voice, or camera.

On your app tray, to open the Google app, tap the Google app .
Tips:
- When you search on Google, you can find some results in 3D and augmented reality. Learn how to experience 3D and augmented reality in Search.
- For certain location queries and landmarks, you’ll find a link that opens the place in the Google Maps app for Android XR.
Search what’s in front of you with Circle to Search on Android XR
With Circle to Search, you can explore what’s on your screen and in the world around you. You can circle or scribble on text, images, videos, and your surroundings to select and search for them on Google.
How to use Circle to Search on Android XR
Pinch to search
To search anything in front of you:
- Hold your hand in front of you with your palm facing you. The gesture navigation icon appears.
- Pinch and hold until the Google icon appears.
- Release to open Circle to Search.
- Point your cursor anywhere on your screen.
- Pinch while holding and draw a circle around what you want to search like:
- Text
- Images
- Videos
- Objects
Tips:
- To search anything in the real world, turn on passthrough mode in Settings. Learn how to navigate on your Android XR device.
- To refine your search, add text in the search bar.
Use the camera
To search what’s in front of you with your camera:
- From either the App tray or the System actions, open the Google App
- Tap Camera
.
- Pinch, hold, and circle or draw on what you want to search.
Tip: In your Quick Search Box (QSB), when you open Circle to Search with your camera, the passthrough mode is automatically turned on.
