Top Stories in Search

In Google Search when a news-oriented search query is detected, the "Top Stories" section may appear. Our automated systems match the search with relevant, high quality, and fresh content to display. You can find content related to your search under "Top stories" and a link to more related content on the news tab.

Preferred sources

If you’re in the US or India, you can add your preferred sources in "Top stories" in English to find more content from them.

If you're signed in to your Google Account when you save your settings, your settings stay the same in every browser you sign into.

Select your preferred sources

  1. On your computer, go to google.com.
  2. Search for something significant that's happened recently.
  3. If the Top stories feature appears in the search results page, on the right of the Top stories header, click Cards star .
  4. Search for sources you want to find.
Tip: Sources that aren’t updated regularly may not be available.
  5. Click the checkbox.
  6. At the bottom, click Reload results.
  7. You’ll now find these sources more often in Top stories when they publish fresh content related to your search.

Modify your preferred sources

  1. When the Top stories feature appears in the search results page, on the right of the Top stories header, click Cards star .
  2. Select or deselect the blue checkbox on the right of the source name.
  3. Click Reload results.
