Important: This feature is available on select models of Android phones.
To select and search text or images anywhere on Google, you can:
- Circle
- Highlight
- Scribble
- Tap
How to use Circle to Search
To search for text, images, or videos on your screen:
- Start Circle to Search:
- On 3-button navigation mode, long press the Home button.
- On Gesture navigation mode, long press the Navigation handle.
- To select the text, image, or video you want to search:
- Circle
- Highlight
- Tap anywhere on the screen
- If desired, to refine your search, add text in the search bar.
- Your search results appear at the bottom of the screen.
- To see more results, swipe up on the results.
Tips:
- To adjust your selection, drag the borders of the selection or the entire selection.
- To interact with content blocked by the search bar, two finger pan to move the window or drag the search bar to the top or bottom of the screen.
- To perform a music search of the audio that plays around you, or through speakers on your device, tap the Musical note
.
- To search the entire screen, open Circle to Search and tap the search bar.
- To delete a screenshot from the query, double-tap the screenshot thumbnail or press the backspace on your keyboard.
Translate screen text with Circle to Search
To translate the text that shows on your screen, you can use Circle to Search.
Translate specific text
- Open Circle to Search.
- Circle or tap the text you want to translate.
Tips:
- If text isn’t selected automatically, tap Select text.
- If needed, adjust the selection manually.
- Tap Translate

Translate your entire screen instantly
- Open Circle to Search.
- Next to the search bar, tap Translate
.
Tip: At the top, in the language selector pill, choose the languages of your translation.
Translate your screen while you scroll
Important: The Scroll and translate feature will be gradually released to selected devices only, so at this moment it won’t be available to all Android users.
- Open Circle to Search.
- Next to the search bar, tap Translate
.
- At the top, in the language selector pill, choose the languages of your translation.
- Tap Scroll and Translate.
- A pill shows the translation language. Tap the pill to minimize it.

Tip: Scroll to translate new text automatically. This easily translates long webpages and documents so you don't have to tap translate multiple times.

- To exit, next to the pill with the selected language, tap Close

- Or, you can also close the feature from the Android notification shade.
Get AI Overviews with Circle to Search
You can get AI Overviews with Circle to Search based on your text or multisearch queries. Learn more about multisearch.
- If you’re in the United States:
- AI Overviews are available by default on multisearch queries.
- To enable AI Overviews for text queries, you need to opt in to "AI Overviews and more" in Search Labs. Learn more about "AI Overviews and more".
- If you’re outside the United States:
- To enable AI Overviews for text and multisearch queries, you need to opt in to "AI Overviews and more" in Search Labs. Learn more about "AI Overviews and more".
Turn off Circle to Search
On 3-button navigation mode
- On your Android phone, go to Settings
.
- Search for Circle to Search.
- Tap Circle to Search.
- Turn off Circle to Search.
On Gesture navigation mode
- On your Android phone, go to Settings
.
- Search for Circle to Search.
- Tap Circle to Search.
- Turn off Circle to Search.
Troubleshoot "Circle to Search isn't available" error
To use Circle to Search on a supported Android device, make sure that:
Your permissions settings are correct
- On your Android phone, go to Settings
.
- Search for Digital assistant app.
- Tap Digital assistant app.
- Make sure that:
- Default digital assistant is set to "Google."
- “Use screenshot” is turned on.
- Make sure that:
Your Google app is up to date
- On your Android phone, open the Google Play Store app
.
- At the top right, tap your Profile icon.
- Tap Manage apps and device
Manage.
- Tap the Google app
.
- If you see the label "Update available," tap on Update.
