The family manager or another parent in the Google Family Group can manage the child's balance in Wallet through Google Family Link or the Google Wallet website. Parents can add money, set daily spending limits, review transactions, and lock or unlock the balance.

Your ability to manage the balance depends on your role in the Google Family Group.

Add money to the child’s balance
Important:
- The other parent must verify their identity when they add money for the first time. Learn how to verify your identity.
- Once money is added to the child's balance, it can’t be withdrawn. This includes accidental transfers or if a parent adds too much money. To refund the money, the family manager must close the child's balance. Learn more about balance closure.
- To control the child's spending, parents can set a daily spending limit. Learn how to manage the daily spending limit.
- Balance limits:
- Funding limit: Parents can add a maximum of $2,000 every 7 days.
- Maximum balance: The child's account is capped at a maximum balance of $4,000 at any given time.
- On a parent's device, go to Google Family Link.
- Select your child.
- Tap Google Wallet.
- Select your child's balance.
- Tap Add money.
- Enter the amount.
- Tap Next.
- From your linked accounts, select the payment method.
- You can also add a new card or bank account. Learn how to add a payment method.
- Tap Add {amount}.
Tip: When the transfer is complete, parents get an email and the child gets an app notification. If the balance is $0.00, you'll be prompted to add money.
- On a parent's device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- In the “Family” section, select your child
your child's balance.
- Tap Add money.
- Enter the amount.
- Tap Next.
- From your linked accounts, select the payment method.
- You can also add a new card or bank account. Learn how to add a payment method.
- Tap Add {amount}.
Tip: When the transfer is complete, parents get an email and the child gets an app notification. If the balance is $0.00, you'll be prompted to add money.
Fix common issues with adding money
If you've added too much money to your child's balanceTo control how much they spend, you can set a daily spending limit. Money that's been transferred to your child's balance can't be canceled. If you want the money refunded, you can close the child’s balance. Learn more about refunds.
- Under "Transactions," confirm if the transaction is showing on your account.
- Check your email for confirmation that the money was added to the child’s balance.
- Check the payment method you used.
- For debit cards, funds transfer instantly.
- For a bank account, funds transfer within 3–5 business days.
Tips:
- Check in with your bank or card issuer.
- If a transaction fails, try again with a different payment method.
- Confirm that you haven't reached the transfer limit. You can transfer a maximum of $2,000 every 7 days.
- Confirm that the child's balance doesn't exceed $4,000.
If you still encounter issues with adding money to your child's balance, contact Google Pay support.
Manage daily spending limit
Important:
- Only one spending limit can be set at a time.
- If your child reaches their daily spending limit, their balance is disabled for transactions until the next day.
- On a parent's device, go to Google Family Link.
- Select your child.
- Tap Google Wallet.
- Select your child's balance.
- Beside “Daily spending limit,” tap Add or Edit.
- Enter the amount.
- Tap Next
Set limit.
To remove the set daily spending limit: On your child's balance, beside “Daily spending limit,” tap Edit Turn off.
- On a parent’s device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- In the “Family” section, select your child
your child's balance.
- Beside “Daily spending limit,” tap Add or Edit.
- Enter the amount.
- Tap Next
Set limit.
To remove the set daily spending limit: On your child's balance, beside “Daily spending limit,” tap Edit Turn off.
- On your child’s device, go to the Google Wallet app
.
- Tap the balance.
- If the daily spending limit is set, you’ll find “Daily spending limit” on the device.
Tips:
- Parents can edit or remove the daily spending limit.
- If your child attempts a transaction that exceeds their daily spending limit:
- The transaction will be declined.
- Parents will receive an email and the child will receive a notification about the limit.
Lock or unlock the child's balance
Parents can temporarily lock the child's balance to block transactions. This can be helpful if the child's device gets lost, stolen, or you want to temporarily stop your child from spending their balance. You can also remove their balance from the lost or stolen device.
Important:
- Parents can lock or unlock the balance. Emails are sent to parents when the balance is locked.
- When the balance is locked, it'll appear as “Locked” to the child in the Google Wallet app.
- On a parent's device, go to Google Family Link.
- Select your child.
- Tap Google Wallet.
- Select your child's balance.
- Turn Lock balance on or off.
- Your child will receive a notification from Wallet that their balance is locked or unlocked. When locked, their balance is greyed-out in their app.
- On a parent's device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- Under the “Family” section, select your child
your child's balance.
- Turn Lock balance on or off.
- Your child will receive a notification from Wallet that their balance is locked or unlocked. When locked, their balance is greyed-out in their app.
Manage devices linked to the child's balance
Parents can choose which devices can be used for the child’s balance. To add the balance, the child must have an eligible device that includes NFC and a minimum Android version for tap to pay. Check if your device is compatible with Google Wallet.
How parents can add child’s balance to a device with Google Family Link- On a parent's device, go to Google Family Link.
- Select your child.
- Tap Google Wallet.
- Select your child's balance.
- Under the child’s listed devices, select a device to “Add for tap to pay.”
- If there's no device detected, follow the on-screen instructions to add one. Learn how to add a device.
Tips:
- Your child will get an email and a notification in the Google Wallet app confirming that their parent has set up a balance for them.
- In order to use the balance, the child needs to complete the setup soon after they receive the notification.
- On a parent's device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- In the “Family” section, select your child
your child's balance.
- Under the child’s listed devices, select a device to “Add for tap to pay.”
- If there's no device detected, follow the on-screen instructions to add one.
Tips:
- Your child will get an email and a notification in the Google Wallet app confirming that their parent has set up a balance for them.
- In order to use the balance, the child needs to complete the setup soon after they receive the notification.
Remove the balance from a device
If the child's device is lost or stolen, parents can remove the balance from that device to prevent unauthorized transactions.
When the balance is removed from a device, it doesn't close the child's balance. It remains active and visible to parents. It's only removed from that specific device.
How parents can remove the balance from a device with the Google Family Link- On a parent's device, go to the Google Family Link.
- Select your child.
- Tap Google Wallet.
- Select your child's balance.
- Under the child's listed devices, choose a device you want to remove.
- Beside that device, tap More
Remove from device
OK.
- Once the balance is removed from a device, your child will receive a notification in Google Wallet app and they won't be able to tap to pay with that device.
Tip: For the child to use the balance again for tap to pay transactions, the parent must add the balance to a device.
- On a parent's device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- Under the “Family” section, select your child
your child's balance.
- Under the child's listed devices, choose a device you want to remove.
- Beside that device, tap More
Remove from device
OK.
- Once the balance is removed from a device, your child will receive a notification in Google Wallet app.
Tip: For the child to use the balance again for tap to pay transactions the parent must add the balance to a device.
The child can remove the balance from a device themselves.
On the child’s phone:
- On your child’s smartwatch go to the Google Wallet app

Close your child’s balance
Only the family manager can close the child’s balance and receive the remaining funds from it. Learn more about balance closure and refund.
Reset the child’s PIN
Once you reset your child's PIN, make sure to share it with them, since they might need it to complete some tap to pay transactions.
Reset child's PIN with Google Family Link- On a parent's device, go to the Google Family Link.
- Select your child.
- Tap Google Wallet.
- Select your child's balance.
- Tap Reset PIN.
- Create a 4-digit PIN. Your PIN must not use:
- Numbers in order, like 1234.
- Consecutive repeating numbers, like 5555.
- Tap Submit.
- Re-enter the new PIN.
- Tap Submit.
- On a parent's device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- Under the “Family” section, select your child
your child's balance.
- Tap Reset PIN.
- Create a 4-digit PIN. Your PIN must not use:
- Numbers in order, like 1234.
- Consecutive repeating numbers, like 5555.
- Tap Submit.
- Re-enter the new PIN.
- Tap Submit.
View balance, transaction history & statements
Parents can easily monitor their child’s current balance, transaction history, and statements through Google Family Link or the Google Wallet website, while a child accesses their balance in the Google Wallet app. This helps both parents and child track the transaction activities and manage balance effectively.
View balance & review transactions
Important:
- Parents or the child can view and review transactions. Parents receive an email when the child makes a transaction.
- If the child’s balance is closed, only the family manager can download statements. Learn how to access your child's balance statements.
- If you find a transaction you don't recognize, you can file a dispute. Learn how to dispute charges on your child's balance.
- On a parent's device, go to Google Family Link.
- Select your child.
- Tap Google Wallet.
- Tap the balance.
- You'll find the remaining balance and may review the recent transactions.
- Under “Recent activity,” your child’s recent tap to pay transactions are displayed.
- To show all tap to pay transactions, tap View more transactions.
- To show more details, tap the transaction.
- On a parent's device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- Under the “Family” section, select your child
your child's balance.
- You'll find the remaining balance and may review the recent transactions.
- Under “Recent activity,” your child’s recent tap to pay transactions are displayed.
- To show all tap to pay transactions, tap View more transactions.
- To show more details, tap the transaction.
A child can find their balance and recent transactions directly within the Google Wallet app.
On the child's phone:
- Open the Google Wallet app

- Tap the balance.
- Your child’s current balance and recent activity is shown.
- To show all tap to pay transactions, tap View more activity.
- To show more details, tap the transaction.
On the child's smartwatch:
- Open the Google Wallet app
.
- Tap the balance.
- Your child’s current balance is shown.
- Tap Activity.
- Your child's recent activity is shown.
Family manager can access the child's balance statements
To review the detailed spending summary, the family manager can access the monthly statements.
Important:
- Once the child’s balance is closed, the transaction history is no longer available to parents and the child. The statement is only available to the family manager at payments.google.com or on the Family page of the Google Wallet website.
- If the other parent wants to access the transaction history for the closed balance, they should contact the family manager.
- On a parent's device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- Tap Family
Balance statements.
- You’ll be redirected to the payments.google.com.
- Select the time period or months that you want to review.
- Tap Download.
Once the child’s balance is closed, the transaction history is no longer available to parents and the child. The statement is accessible only to the family manager and available at payments.google.com or on the Family page of Google Wallet website.
Important: If there are no open balances in the Family Group, statements will no longer be accessible on the Family view in Google Wallet website. The family manager will have to access the statements at payments.google.com.
- On the child's phone, go to payments.google.com.
- Tap Payment methods
the child's balance.
- Select Balance statements.
- Choose the time period or months that you want to review.
- Tap Download.
- The child can view and download their balance statements.
Important: Teens 13 and older can also view their own balance statement on the Google Wallet website.
- On the child's device, go to the Google Wallet website.
- Tap Payment methods

- In the "Recent activity" section, tap View statements.
- You may need to scroll to find it.
