Launching New Languages

Hi Translate Community,

We’ve heard your ask for more languages and we are thrilled to announce we’re adding 100+ new languages to Translate. Over the next few days, you will see new languages available on translate.google.com and the Google Translate Apps.

The new languages are:

Hi,

Thank you for adding Santali language support! This is a much-awaited feature for the Santali community.

I'd like to provide some feedback to further improve Santali language integration:

Script: Currently, Santali is displayed in Latin script. However, the primary script for Santali is Ol Chiki. It would be beneficial to have Santali displayed and searchable in Ol Chiki as well.
Translation Engine: Expanding the translation engine to support Ol Chiki would be highly valuable. Many Indian government websites and educational institutions use Ol Chiki. This would allow for seamless translation between Santali and other languages.
Machine Translation in Ol Chiki: Santali is taught in various colleges and universities in India, primarily using Ol Chiki script. Machine translation support for Ol Chiki would greatly benefit students, scholars, and the Santali community at large.
Ol Chiki Resources: A vast amount of offline content, including books and potentially signage, exists in Ol Chiki. This material could be a valuable resource for training Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and machine translation models for Ol Chiki.
Santali Online Content: The majority of online Santali content, like the Santali Wikipedia (https://sat.wikipedia.org/), uses Ol Chiki. Machine translation support for Ol Chiki would enable users to translate Santali content into other languages and vice versa.
Santali Wikimedia Community: Improved Ol Chiki support would empower the Santali Wikimedia community by providing an alternative to the current MinT machine translation system.

Thank you for considering this feedback. I believe these improvements would significantly enhance the accessibility and usefulness of Santali language support for the Santali community and beyond.

While appreciating the efforts of the google team, I am sorry for the Santali language. Currently it shows translation in Latin /Roman Script. I do believe Google have made huge investment for this project, but while I am assessing the impact of its output it is disappointing. There are 7.6 million native Santali speaking people and it is less than 7lakhs people who prefer Santali in Latin/Roman script. This will be not useful for rest of the 7 million Santali people who are using Olchiki for everything. Now it seems the huge investment made on this project flown away for this negligence. I suggest before lunching a project ground work must have been done on its acceptance, utility.

I wish the team will re consider for the google translation for Santali language in OLCHIKI script.

Santali translation Santali Script Ol Chiki Script should be used. Do not translation Santali in Roman or Devanagari script. There is a special status of the Santali language, so it should be translated into the Ol Chiki script itself.

I'm Currently studying post graduation in Santali from Visva-Bharati University. In this university along with other University of India offer Santali under graduation to PHD program in Ol Chiki script. And West Bengal Santali medium school is also using Ol Chiki script for Santali language education.

Even many times Prime minister of India and President of India tweeted in Santali using Ol Chiki script.

I am trying to say that most of the Santal people use Ol Chiki script to write Santali language.

It is our humble request to Google translation team take necessary action to provide Santali language translation in Ol Chiki script.

Humble request to Google translator authority to use Ol Chiki script for Santali language translation, because everywhere popularly used Ol Chiki script for Santali language.It must be remember that Ol Chiki script is only script which we cas use to write Santali language with perfect pronunciation and perfect meaning of word or sentence.
