Dual form of payment

You can sometimes buy items from the Google Store with two different payment methods. This is called dual form of payment (FOP). This happens when you buy an item and a subscription together. This option is currently only available in Japan and the UK.

Important: Dual form of payment will not be available in Japan until 31 March 2025.

Use two different payment methods

Some payment methods can't be used for subscriptions. For example, you can't use Klarna or Splitit (Japan only) for subscriptions, but you can use a credit or debit card, PayPal or Synchrony Financing (US only).

Learn how dual FOP works

If you buy a device and a subscription, you can use:

  • Different payment methods for each.
  • The same payment method for both, especially if you use a credit or debit card or PayPal.

Here's how it works:

  • Both payments are processed at the same time.
  • The device purchase is completed first.
  • If something goes wrong with the subscription payment, you'll get an email to try again later.

Know what happens if there's a problem

Sometimes, the payment system might ask you to verify your payment method. This is to make sure that it's you who makes the purchase.

  • The Google Store will show you any challenges or verification requests.
  • You won't find the same verification request twice if you use the same payment method for both the item and subscription.
  • If you can't pass the verification, the Google Store sends you an error message.

Example:

If you buy a Pixel phone and a Google One subscription:

  • You can use a credit card to pay for the Pixel phone and use a different credit card or PayPal to pay for the subscription.
  • They're both charged at the same time.
  • If the subscription payment fails, you'll still get your phone and you'll receive an email with instructions to try again.

Handle a payment that doesn't go through

  • If the payment for the item doesn't go through, the whole order won't be completed.
  • If the payment for the item is approved but the subscription isn't, you'll still get your item and just need to subscribe again later.

Same order ID

Even if you use two different payment methods, the item and subscription will have the same order ID.
