Fix Wi-Fi connection problems
Step 2: Find the problem type
If you’re having Wi-Fi connection problems or see an Wi-Fi icon with an exclamation point
, try the solutions below. After each solution, try to open a webpage on your phone to see if the issue is fixed.
Note: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.1 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.
Step 1: Check settings & restart
- Make sure Wi-Fi is on. Then turn it off and on again to reconnect. Learn how to connect to Wi-Fi networks.
- Make sure Airplane mode is off. Then turn it on and off again to reconnect. Learn how to enable and disable airplane mode.
- Press your phone's power button for a few seconds. Then, on your screen, tap Restart
.
- Phone: Try connecting to the Wi-Fi network with another device, like a laptop computer or friend's phone. If other devices can use the network, the problem is most likely with your phone.
- Network: Check whether your phone can connect to another Wi-Fi network, like at a friend's house or a public network. If your phone can connect elsewhere, the problem is most likely with the network.
- Internet: If your phone connects to the Wi-Fi network but you still have no internet, the problem is most likely with your internet connection.
If the problem continues, please try this troubleshooting

There is also a post about a user with advanced electronics know how that explains that the issue most likely due to the proximity of the cpu and the WiFi/Bluetooth integrated circuit on the motherboard. The heat from the CPU causes the WiFi’ IC to come loose and nothing but a new mother board (or reballing the IC if you have that capabilities) would be able to fix the problem. He did the experiment on his device and it worked.
So it is most definitely a hardware issue. Google hasn’t acknowledged this publicly and WiFi issues can be so diverse I doubt they’ll admit to anything. They have however switch manufacturers from Samsung (well know for chips that run hot) to TSMC, the same manufacturer of the Apple chips who is known for creating power efficient chips that run cooler. So not an admission of guilt but at least a change. However affected users are left in the wind.
There is at least a bit of hope: they did create an extended 3 year warranty program for users affected with a screen error, so maybe if more people catch up the the WiFi’s heated mother board issue they might do the same for this very problem. In the mean time I am reactivating an old Motorola because I absolutely need WiFi for my work while I weight my options, which in the mean time doesn’t include anything resembling a Pixel again, unless google fixes the issue.
A +$1000 phone without wifi and Bluetooth in a little over a year is just unacceptable.
Sincerely,
Luis Rivero.
