If your car or Bluetooth accessory isn’t connecting to your phone, try the solutions below.
Important:
- If you use a custom Android version and these steps don't work for you, get help from your device manufacturer and mobile carrier.
- Some of these steps only work on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.
Find Bluetooth diagnostics
Important: Bluetooth diagnostics are available on Pixel 6 and up, including Fold.
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Connected devices
Bluetooth diagnostics.
If you share “device and bluetooth diagnostics,” your device can send:
- Your phone’s basic info:
- Account info
- IMEI number
- Phone model like Pixel 8 or Pixel 8 Pro
- Software version
- User session ID number
- Info about certain settings like whether Bluetooth, airplane mode, or mobile network are turned on
- Info if you select a specific accessory to troubleshoot:
- Accessory type, brand, model, and volume settings
- For car infotainment, whether Android Auto is supported
- Connection test results for media audio, hands-free calling, and hearing aid profile
- Hardware component status
- Info if you select an optional bug report:
- Bluetooth HCI snoop log which includes info about accessory interactions like Bluetooth name, MAC address, and LE audio reports
- Unencrypted accessory data like SIM operator name, phone numbers, and Now Playing song metadata
Step 1: Check Bluetooth basics
- Turn Bluetooth off and then on again. Learn how to turn Bluetooth on and off.
- Confirm that your devices are paired and connected. Learn how to pair and connect via Bluetooth.
- Restart your devices. Learn how to restart your Pixel phone or Nexus device.
Step 2: Troubleshoot by problem type
Can't pair with carStep 1: Clear devices from your phone's memory
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Connected devices
Saved devices. If you don't see "Saved devices," tap Bluetooth.
- If you see devices you're not currently using, next to each device name, tap Settings

Step 2: Clear phones from your car's memory
To clear phones paired with your car, follow your car's manual.
- Clear any phones you're not currently using.
- If you paired your phone and car before, clear your phone.
Step 3: Refresh the device list, then pair
To learn whether to pair from your phone or car, check your car’s manual.

Pair from your phone
- Check that your car is discoverable and ready to pair.
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Connected devices. If you see "Bluetooth," tap it.
- Tap Pair new device

- Keep this screen open.
- On your car's list of devices, pick your phone's name.
- If asked, check that the PINs shown on your phone and car's screens match.
- Tap Allow access to your contacts and call history.
- Tap Pair, Accept, or Confirm.
Can't pair with Wear OS
- If you're pairing your watch with your phone for the first time, try these troubleshooting steps.
- If your watch keeps disconnecting from your phone, try these reconnection steps.
Can't pair with other accessories
- Check that your accessory is discoverable and ready to pair. Follow the instructions that came with your accessory.
- Often, you'll see a blue light on an accessory when it's ready to pair.
- You must connect some accessories, like folio keyboards, to your phone or tablet before they can pair.
- Refresh your accessory list.
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Connected devices. If you see "Bluetooth," tap it.
- Tap Pair new device
your accessory's name.
- If your accessory needs a passcode and you don't have it, try
0000or1234(the most common passcodes).
Important: Not all cars can play music by Bluetooth. If the problem is with a car, check the car's manual.
- Check that the volume is up on your phone and car or accessory.
- Check that other devices paired with your phone aren't playing the music.
- Check that Media audio is turned on:
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Connected devices. If you see "Bluetooth," tap it.
- If you see Saved devices, tap it.
- Next to your car or accessory's name, tap Settings
.
- Turn on Media audio.
Important: Not all cars can make or get phone calls by Bluetooth. If the problem is with a car, check the car's manual.
- Check that other devices paired with your phone aren't getting your calls.
- Turn on Phone audio:
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Connected devices. If you see "Bluetooth," tap it.
- If you see Saved devices, tap it.
- Next to your car or accessory's name, tap Settings
.
- Turn on Phone audio.
