Fix touch and response issues on your Pixel screen

If your Pixel touchscreen has sensitivity issues, doesn't respond or doesn't rotate, try these fixes.

For other screen issues, like flickering light, cracks or a line on the screen, learn how to fix screen appearance issues on your Pixel phone.

Fix touchscreen response issues

If your screen doesn't respond to touches or has sensitivity issues, try the steps below for your Pixel phone model.

Important: If the touch issue only happens in a specific app, contact the app developer.

Check your phone's screen:

  1. Try removing the case or screen protector to see if touch responsiveness improves. You may not be able to put the screen protector on again.
  2. If you're wearing gloves, take them off.
  3. If you've put any stickers over the screen or sensors, peel them off.
  4. Make sure that your screen is clean.

Fix screen rotation

If your screen doesn't rotate:

  1. Check if auto-rotate is on:
    1. From the top of the screen, swipe down to open the Settings app.
    2. Tap Display and touch and then Auto-rotate screen.
  2. Check for a system update.
    1. Open your phone's Settings app.
    2. Tap System and then Software updates.
    3. Install any updates.
  3. Find out if an app causes your problem
    1. Turn on safe mode. Learn how to turn on safe mode.
    2. Once you're in safe mode, check if screen rotation works.
      • If your screen works in safe mode, a downloaded app is most likely causing your issue.
        1. To exit safe mode, restart your phone.
        2. To find the app that’s causing issues, uninstall recently downloaded apps one by one.
        3. After you remove the app that's causing the problem, you can reinstall the other apps that you removed.
      • If your screen doesn't work in safe mode, continue to the next step.

Tip: Aeroplane mode is automatically turned on when you enter safe mode. We recommend turning off aeroplane mode in order to continue using features, such as GPS, Wi-Fi and making phone calls.

  1. Check for app updates.
    • If the issue is with a specific app, check for updates in the app store.

Fix phone screen that stays on during phone calls

If your screen stays on or off after you move your phone away from your face during phone calls or when using certain apps, open your phone's Settings app and then:

  1. Check for a system update.
    1. Tap System and then Software updates.
    2. Install any updates.
  2. Check display timeout settings and disable the screen attention setting.
    1. Tap Display and then Screen timeout.
    2. Turn off Screen attention.
