Understand commute settings & permissions

To provide you with timely and accurate info, this feature requires certain settings and permissions:

  • Home and work location: Commute alerts in At a Glance use your saved home and work addresses in Google Maps. This determines your most frequent commute routes and destinations.
  • Background location: This permission allows At a Glance to send timely transit info based on your current location.
    • To set it up:
      1. Tap Settings and then Location and then Maps and then Allow all the time.
      2. Turn on Use precise location.
  • Timeline (Location history): When you turn on Timeline, At a Glance can learn your commute history and patterns over time. This helps Google send timely updates based on your commute history.
  • Web & App Activity: This feature saves your activity from other Google services, like Google Maps. This refines the personalized commute info and updates you receive.

Tip: You can change any of these settings and permissions at any time.
