You can turn notifications on or off for any app on your Pixel phone. You can also choose which kinds of notifications an app sends you.
Change an app's notification settings
There are 2 ways to change the settings for an app's notifications.
From a notification:
- When there’s a notification from the app, touch and hold it.
- Turn that app's notifications on or off.
From the Settings app:
- Open your phone's Settings app

- Tap Notifications
App notifications.
- To find all of your apps, tap Most recent
All apps.
- Tap the app's name.
- Turn the app’s notifications on or off.
Tip: In some apps’ settings, you can control different types of notifications called “Categories.”
- Example: A shopping app might let you turn off "promotions" but keep "shipping updates."
Choose between alerts & silent notifications
Decide if a notification should make a sound or not.
- Alerts:
- Your phone makes a sound or vibrates.
- The app’s icon also shows at the top of your screen.
- Silent:
- Your phone doesn’t make a sound or vibrate.
- The notification appears when you swipe down from the top of your screen.
To change this setting for an app:
- Touch and hold a notification from that app.
- Tap Default or Silent.
Turn on live updates
Some apps can show real-time updates on your lock screen. For example, you can find the location of your ride or the time of your food delivery.
- Open your phone’s Settings app

- Tap Notifications
App notifications.
- Tap the app’s name.
- Turn on Live updates.
Check if alerts are turned on or off
If you don't get alerts from an app, a setting may be turned off.
- Check the app's settings: To make sure the app’s notifications are turned on, follow the steps to change an app’s notifications settings.
- Check for other settings: Settings that save battery or reduce interruptions can sometimes delay or stop notifications.
