You can create transcriptions of your recordings and edit them in the available languages. You can also manage your transcriptions and get a summary of your transcribed recordings.
Detect language for transcription (Pixel 6 & later)
To set Recorder to recognize and transcribe a language:
- On your device, open the Recorder app

- Tap the user icon
.
- Tap Recorder settings.
- Select your transcription language.
- Tap Detect language.
When you start a recording, Recorder automatically recognizes the language you chose.
Tips:
- To change from “Audio” to “Transcript,” tap Transcript. On your transcript screen, you’ll find the message “
Auto detect” and your chosen language.
- If you record more than one language in a session, Recorder transcribes the most spoken language.

Edit text in a transcript
You can change or remove one word at a time in a transcript.
- Tap a recording you want to edit
Transcript.
- Touch and hold the word that you want to change.
- Tap Edit word.
- Change the word to the one you want to use.
- Tap Save.
Get a summary of your transcribed recordings
Important:
- This feature is available for Pixel 8 and later in English and Japanese transcriptions only.
- This feature uses a large language model to summarize your transcript content, and you're prompted to “Download model to continue.”
You can get a summary of your recorded conversations, interviews, and presentations. This summary is AI-generated. Learn more about Google's Gen AI policies.
- When you have a saved recording, within the transcript section, the “Summarize” button appears.
- To opt in, follow the on-screen instructions.
- Tap Summarize.
- To expand or minimize the summary, tap Expand
.
- If you get an error, try a different recording.
Tips:- When you’ve opted in, to generate a summary of your transcript, tap Summarize. You can expand or minimize the summary at any time.
- The feature works best with medium-length recordings and includes safety restrictions to block harmful content.
Transcribe a recording again
You can use Recorder to re-transcribe an existing recording.
- On your device, open the Recorder app
.
- Tap the recording you want to re-transcribe.
- Tap More
Transcribe again.
- Choose a language.
Tip: Re-transcribe can process audio files on Google servers.

Search within recordings or read transcripts
You can search for words, phrases, or sounds like music or applause. You can also find the exact time the word was spoken or when the sound occurred.
