Find, back up & manage recordings on your Pixel device

Important: The Recorder app works on Pixel 3 and later phones and Pixel Tablet.

You can back up, sync, and otherwise manage recordings on your Pixel phone or Pixel Tablet. You can also block emails from people who send you recordings.

Turn back up & sync on or off

Important: If you choose to back up and sync, your recordings are stored outside your device and remain private to your Google Account by default. Learn more about Google Account privacy policies.

1. On your device, sign into your Google Account.
2. Open the Recorder app .
3. Tap the user icon .
   • To set the Google Account you want to back up recordings with, select the account name.
     Tip: When you create a recording, it’s linked to the selected Google Account and can’t be changed later.
4. Tap Recorder settings Back up & sync.
5. Turn Back up & sync on or off.

Find & sync backed up recordings

To find all the recordings backed up to your Google Account, go to recorder.google.com.

To sync recordings on your Google Account that aren’t on your device:

1. On your device, open the Recorder app .
2. From anywhere on your screen, drag down to refresh.

You can switch between Google Accounts in the Recorder app to access the recording library for each account, but you can only access one library at a time.

1. On your device, open the Recorder app .
2. Tap the user icon .
3. Next to your Google Account information, tap Expand more .
4. Tap the Google Account with the recordings you want to check.

Change backup settings

1. On your device, open the Recorder app .
2. Tap the user icon .
3. Tap Recorder settings Back up & sync.
4. Change your backup settings:
   • To back up with mobile data:
     1. Under Settings, tap Mobile data usage.
     2. Turn on Back up recordings over data.
   • To back up while roaming:
     1. Under "Settings," tap Mobile data usage.
     2. Turn on Back up recordings over data Back up while roaming.

Tip: If you back up with your mobile network, charges from your service provider may apply.

Back up & find recordings on your Google Account (Pixel 3 & later, including Fold)

Important: Storage is shared across Photos, Drive, Gmail, and other services. If you use all of your storage, you can’t back up new files. You can get more storage or clean up space with Google One. Learn how to buy more storage.

Back up and sync automatically saves your recordings to your Google Account at recorder.google.com. If you log into your account, you can get your recordings from any device.

You can choose to back up and sync some recordings, or choose for other recordings to stay private on your device. Learn how to use Recorder without an account.

Manage your recordings

Pin your favorite recordings

To find your favorite recordings more easily, you can pin them to the top of your Recorder home screen.

1. On your device, open the Recorder app .
2. Tap a recording.
3. At the top, tap Favorite .
   Tip: At the bottom of the recording, you’ll find the message “Favorited .”
4. At the top of your Recorder home screen, “Favorites” are grouped in a folder.
   Tips:
   • The total number of favorite recordings is displayed to the right of this folder.
   • To display all your pinned favorites, tap Favorites .

Find missing recordings

Important: You can't migrate recordings to another account.

If a recording wasn’t backed up, it may have been created before an account was added. To find it:

1. On your device, open the Recorder app .
2. Tap the user icon .
3. Next to your Google Account information, tap Expand more .
4. Tap Use without an account.

Find & manage your recordings in a browser

In a web browser, you can edit the title, play back, and search within a recording. To begin, go to recorder.google.com.

Block emails from anyone who sent you a recording link
