Set up & use Live Translate

You can translate text messages, webpages, road signs, or menus on your Pixel 9 and later phones.

On your phone, open your Settings app . Then, tap System.

Tap Live Translate.

Live Translate is on by default. If it’s off, turn it on.

Tip: Live Translate is only available for Pixel 6 and later phones.

To change the language you want to translate to, tap Translate to.

Select a language.

You’ll get a list of features that are supported in the language you selected. When you’re ready, tap Select language.

To add additional languages you want to translate, tap Add a language.

You can use Live Translate directly from your Pixel home screen.

To translate text with your camera:

  1. On your Pixel search bar, tap Lens Google Lens.
  2. Search with your camera.
  3. Tap Translate.

To use Live Translate in other apps:

  1. To translate text in photos, screenshots, videos, and other media, open the Photos app .
  2. To read translated text messages, download new languages. Learn more about how to translate speech and text on your Pixel phone.
