Move photos to the archive

You can hide photos from your Photos view and move them to the archive. This can help you to organise your photos and hide any photos that you don't want to find often.

Any photos that you archive:

  • Will still be in any albums that they were added to, search results and folders on your device.
  • Won't be used to create Highlight videos or animations.
  • Will still count towards your storage quota. Learn how to manage your storage.

If you have a document, receipt or photo that doesn't look like it should be in your Photos view, you might get a suggestion card to move it to the archive. Learn how to manage your suggestion cards.

Move images to the archive

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Select a photo.
  4. Tap More More and then Move to archive.
  5. Optional: To find any photos that you've archived from your Photos view, in the Google Photos app Photos, at the bottom, tap Collections and then Archive.
    • If you access 'Archive' often, you might also find it at the top.

Find your archive and unarchive items

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. At the bottom, tap Collections and then Archive.
    • If you access 'Archive' often, you might also find it at the top.
  4. Tap More More and then Unarchive.
