Search for your photos, videos, & more with Google Photos in Gemini Apps

You can search for specific photos, videos, memories, and more from Google Photos in Gemini Apps.

Important: You can still upload photos to your prompts, even if your gallery app isn’t connected. Learn how to upload photos in Gemini Apps.

What you need

To connect Google Photos to Gemini Apps, you need to:

Sign in to the Gemini app with a personal Google Account. Google Photos isn’t available if you sign in to a work, school, or supervised Google Account. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
Have Keep Activity on. Gemini can’t connect to Google Photos when this setting is off.
Be 18 or over.
Be in a supported country or territory. This feature isn’t available in some United States regions.
Have these Google Photos settings turned on:
- Face Groups and select which face is yours. Learn how to turn on Face Groups and how to select your face group.
- Estimate missing locations. Learn how to turn on Estimate missing locations.

Important: Gallery apps aren’t available in Gemini in Google Messages or in Live chats.

Connect Google Photos to Gemini Apps

On your computer, go to gemini.google.com.
Make sure you’re signed in to the same account you use with Google Photos.
Ask the Gemini app to find a photo in your Google Photos library.
- Tip: Include @Google Photos or my photos in your prompt to make sure it uses the Google Photos app.
If Google Photos isn’t connected and you’re eligible, you’ll get the option to connect it.
Follow the on-screen instructions.

Tip: You can disconnect Google Photos from Gemini Apps anytime in your Connected Apps settings.

Ask for your photos & videos or about them

You can ask Gemini to find photos and videos from Google Photos. When you do this, the search results are provided directly by Google Photos, not Gemini.

Find photos, videos & albums

You can find photos, videos, and albums based on:

Your face groups or relationships you’ve saved in Photos
Location or date the photo or video was taken
Description of what’s in the photo or video
Your current chat with Gemini

Find info in photos & videos from Google Photos

You can ask for important details found in your photos and videos such as:

@Google Photos what are the top 10 things we saw on our last trip?

Do more with your photos & videos

Click a photo to open a larger version of it in Google Photos.
Click a video to open and play it in Google Photos.
Click an album to open it in Google Photos.

Important: If Gemini’s response includes photos or videos retrieved from Google Photos, the share or export features only work with the text portion of the response and photos and videos aren't included.

What Gemini Apps can’t do

Use the editing features within Google Photos.
Add face groups, like names or locations, to your photos in Google Photos.
Create new albums or edit existing ones in Google Photos.
