Important: App lock functionality in GPay is an optional feature.
- After you've added your first bank account on GPay, when you re-open the app, you'll receive a prompt to set up the lock feature.
- If you choose to skip it, you can still follow the steps below to opt-in at a later point in time.
You can either reuse your existing screen lock to secure Google Pay or create a separate Google PIN.
- For the screen lock feature, if the device is unlocked within 30 seconds, GPay app lock will be skipped.
Important: For push payments to online merchants such as Zomato, Flipkart, Zerodha, and others, GPay app lock is skipped for both screen lock and Google PIN.
Tips:
- To unlock Google Pay, you can use Google PIN feature.
- To secure your Google Pay application, you can set up a 4-digit numerical Google PIN.
- Your Google PIN is different from your UPI PIN or the PIN that you use to unlock your phone.
- Devices with Android 5.0 or up can select Google PIN or phone's default lock such as:
- Pattern
- PIN
- Fingerprint lock

Important: If Google PIN is active, you’ll need to be connected to the internet to open the app.
- Open Google Pay

- At the top, tap your photo.
- Tap Settings and then Privacy & Security.
- Slide the button to Enable app lock.
- To set a PIN, select screen lock or 4-digit Google PIN to set as PIN.
- To use your existing pattern, PIN, face ID, fingerprint, or password that you use to lock your phone, select Use your screen lock. With the screen lock option, you can use Google Pay without the lock code when you open the app within a few seconds of unlocking the device.
- To use Google PIN, select Use your 4-digit Google PIN.

Change your Google PIN
- Open Google Pay
- At the top, tap your photo.
- Tap Settings and then Privacy & Security.
- Tap on Manage your app lock.
- Select Use your 4-digit Google PIN.
- Tap Did you forget PIN?.
- Follow the instructions.
