You can stop receiving non-essential messages, like promotions, from businesses in Google Messages. This helps you manage your inbox and focus on messages that matter to you.
Manage messages from new businesses
To help you manage your inbox, you’ll occasionally be asked for your consent to receive messages from businesses that haven’t contacted you before. When this happens, you’ll find a consent dialog.
In the consent dialog, you can choose to:
- Allow messages: To find the current and future messages from the business, tap Allow.
- The business receives a read receipt once the content is revealed.
- Block messages: To stop receiving all messages from the business, tap Block & unsubscribe.
- The conversation moves to your "Spam & blocked" folder and the business gets notified that you declined consent.
- Close the dialog: To decide later and dismiss the consent dialog, tap Close
or anywhere outside the dialog.
- The message content remains hidden and the dialog reappears next time you open the conversation.
Tip: If you initiate the conversation yourself, like when you scan a QR code, consent is automatically granted. You won’t receive a dialog.
Unblock & resubscribe to allow messages
If you previously blocked a business through the consent dialog, you can still change your mind and allow messages from a business. To allow the messages, you need to unblock and resubscribe.
To unblock:
- Open Google Messages
.
- Tap More
Spam & blocked.
- Tap the name of the business you want to unblock.
- To confirm, tap Unblock.
After you've unblocked the business, you also need to resubscribe to receive new messages.
To resubscribe:
- Open Google Messages
.
- Open the conversation with the business you want to subscribe to again.
- In the conversation menu, tap Subscribe again.
- The “Subscribe” option can also appear at the bottom of the conversation.
