To specifically call attention to participants within an RCS group chat, use Mentions in Google Messages. This feature:
- Helps recipients easily find and read messages relevant to them.
- Ensures mentioned persons receive a notification even if their notifications for that specific group chat are muted.

- The Mentions feature is only available in RCS group chats. This isn’t supported in MMS group chats.

Mention someone in an RCS group chat
- On your device, open Google Messages
.
- Find an active RCS group chat.
- In the message composition box, type “@” or the name of the contact.
- If there's a match in the group, you’ll get suggestions.
- From the contact list, select the correct person's name.
- After you select a contact, you can edit the displayed text of the mention.
- Example: If a contact is saved as "My neighbor Frank," change the mention to simply "Frank" to make it more appropriate or concise.
- Enter your message.
