You can edit a Rich Communication Services (RCS), SMS, or MMS message after you send it. This feature also works on:
- One-on-one conversation with iPhone users who also have RCS chats turned on
- Group RCS chats even if other participants don't have editing capabilities
Editing is enabled in the app only, not on the web UI.
The ability to edit a sent message expires after 15 minutes, regardless whether the recipient has read the message or responded to it.
When you edit a message:
- An "Edited" label appears above the message in the conversation for both the sender and recipient.
- On SMS, the recipient receives another message that starts with "*".
Edit a sent message
- On your device, open Google Messages
.
- Touch and hold a sent message in a conversation.
- At the top of the screen, tap Edit
.
- If you touch and hold a message after 15 minutes, the Edit
won’t be available.
- If you touch and hold a message after 15 minutes, the Edit
- Edit the message.
- To update the sent message, tap Check
.
- To exit the editing view, next to “Edit message,” tap Exit
.
- To exit the editing view, next to “Edit message,” tap Exit
If a recipient doesn't support the edit feature, they’ll receive a new message marked with a "*".
