Energy efficiency class [energy_efficiency_class], Minimum energy efficiency class [min_energy_efficiency_class], Maximum energy efficiency class [max_energy_efficiency_class]

Use the energy efficiency class [energy_efficiency_class] attribute to tell customers how your product rates on a given energy efficiency range. When using this attribute, you will also need to set a minimum energy efficiency class [min_energy_efficiency_class] value and a maximum energy efficiency class [max_energy_efficiency_class] value.

Note: Starting April 2025, the [energy_efficiency_class] attributes are only available for products that target Switzerland, Norway, or the United Kingdom. For products targeting countries in the European Union and are required to show graphical energy efficiency class labels, use the certification [certification] attribute, which references the necessary graphical energy efficiency source data from the EU through the EPREL database.

When to use

Optional Optional for each product

The energy efficiency class [energy_efficiency_class], minimum energy efficiency class [min_energy_efficiency_class], and maximum energy efficiency class [max_energy_efficiency_class] attributes are optional, but you may be required to provide this information based on local laws or regulations. For example, if your products target Switzerland, Norway, or the United Kingdom, consider the legal requirements on this matter.

It’s strongly recommended that you submit the energy efficiency class [energy_efficiency_class], minimum energy efficiency class [min_energy_efficiency_class], and maximum energy efficiency class [max_energy_efficiency_class] attributes for applicable products. You might need provide this class for these types of products:

refrigerator Freezer Washing machines  Tumble dryers Combined washer dryers
Wine-storage appliances Dishwasher Ovens Water heaters Hot water storage appliances
air conditioners Electrical lamps Luminaires Televisions

Minimum requirements

These are the requirements you'll need to meet to show your product. If you don't follow these requirements, we'll disapprove your product and let you know in your Merchant Center account.

  • The minimum energy efficiency class value specifies the minimum (least efficient) energy efficiency class on the energy consumption scale for the product category your product belongs to, while the maximum energy efficiency class value specifies the maximum (most efficient) energy efficiency class on that scale.
For example, for a product with an energy efficiency class "C" on a scale from "A+++" to "D", specify energy_efficiency_class=C with max_energy_efficiency_class=A+++ and min_energy_efficiency_class=D
  • The energy efficiency class value you provide must be within the range of the minimum energy efficiency class value and the maximum energy efficiency class value.
For example, if your range runs from "A" (most efficient, maximum energy efficiency class) down to "D" (least efficient, minimum energy efficiency class), the value for the energy efficiency class [energy_efficiency_class] attribute may not be "G".

Best practices

This best practice can help you go beyond the basic requirements to optimize your product data for performance.

  • Submit either the unit pricing measure or energy efficiency class attribute. Do not submit both. If both attributes are present, only the energy efficiency class attribute will be shown.
