How to merge Merchant Center accounts

It's not possible to directly merge multiple Merchant Center accounts. To avoid potential issues from duplicate accounts for the same business, you can consolidate your product data by moving products from one account to another, or use features to manage multiple accounts.

Instructions

To consolidate your product information from a secondary or duplicate account into a main account, you need to move the product data. The method depends on how you currently provide data to Merchant Center.

Identify your data input method

  • File uploads or Google Sheets: If you upload your product data using files (manual upload, SFTP, GCS) or Google Sheets, you can transfer the data by downloading it from the old account and setting it up as a new source in your main account.
  • API: If your products are managed via the API, you will need to configure your API integration to send the product data to the new main Merchant Center account ID. Simply downloading products will not transfer the API setup.
  • Autofeed: If using autofeed, ensure that the main account is crawling the correct website.

Steps for transferring file- or Google Sheets-based data

Step 1 of 4: Export product data from the duplicate account

  1. In your Merchant Center account, select 'Product and shop' in the left navigation menu.
  2. Under the 'All products' tab, select the download icon A picture of the download icon for Google Ads and Merchant Center to export the data as a TSV or CSV file.

Step 2 of 4: Upload your product data in the main account

  1. In your Merchant Center account, select 'Settings' in the left navigation menu.
  2. Select Data sources.
  3. On the 'Primary sources' tab, select Add product source.
  4. Select the type of product source that you'd like to use:
    1. A file: Upload files directly to Merchant Center manually or using SFTP, Google Cloud Storage.
    2. Google Sheets: You can upload your data using a generated Google Sheets template or by using an existing Google Sheet with your product data. Learn how to add products to Merchant Center using Google Sheets.
  5. Follow the prompts to enter your data source, then select Continue.
  6. On the next page, enter these pieces of information:

Information

Description

Target countries

Target countries are the countries in which products from this product data source are sold. Product data in this product data source must meet the requirements for the countries that you submit, including the product data specifications and policies. You can add countries for Shopping ads when you select destinations during the product data source creation process.

Language

The language in which your product data is written. Learn more about supported languages and currencies.

Data source label

Data source labels let you advertise all products with the same data source label in a Google Ads campaign.

Marketing method

Choose one or many data source marketing methods in Merchant Center to allow you to determine which Google features can use the items in your data source. Learn more about marketing methods.

Primary data source name

Enter a descriptive name that helps you to identify the primary data source. The data source name doesn't need to match the name of the file that you're submitting. To change the data source name later, edit your primary data source settings.

File name

Depending on what input method you select, you may be prompted to enter the name of the file that you will submit. This name should exactly match the name of the file that you've created and it should include a valid extension. Ensure that the file name does not contain any special characters.

After you have provided the information and clicked Continue, you can view and manage your newly created primary data source in the 'Primary sources' table.

Step 3 of 4: Claim and verify your website

Since a URL can only be claimed by one account, you must claim it in the main account. If the URL has already been claimed in the duplicate account, it will be automatically unclaimed. Learn more about online store URL verification.

Step 4 of 4: Cleanup

After the product data in your main account goes live, it is recommended that you remove the product data source from the duplicate account. You can also delete the duplicate or inactive accounts.

Note: Historical performance data, such as impressions, clicks and conversions, is tied to the original account ID and will not be transferred. If you want to keep a record, make sure that you export your reports from the old account before removing it.

Merge online and local Merchant Center accounts

While not a full account merge, if you have a Merchant Center account for online products and want to show local inventory from your Business Profile(s), Google Support can assist in linking these. This unifies the display and management of your online and local offers within your primary Merchant Center account.

Prerequisite: The Google Account email address used for your online Merchant Center account must have the necessary management access to the Business Profile(s) containing your local shop information.

This is an assisted process. Contact us to enquire about connecting your online Merchant Center account with your Business Profile local inventory.

After your accounts are linked, you can set up local inventory ads and cost-free local listings. Learn how to implement local inventory ads and cost-free local listings.

Alternatives to consolidation

There are ways to keep and manage multiple Merchant Center accounts without the risk of account suspensions.

  • Add user access: You can ask to be added as a user to other Merchant accounts by their admin, giving you access to products and management without merging the accounts.
  • Use a multi-client account (MCA): If you are managing multiple accounts, you can set up a multi-client account (MCA) with a parent account to oversee multiple sub-accounts. Learn how to request an advanced account setup.
