About generating videos in Product Studio for Merchant Centre

Label assets that are AI edited or created

AI regulations in the European Union, India, and New York require that ads with certain AI-generated or edited assets include disclosures and/or labels that inform consumers that the ads were made with AI.

Add labels directly to your creatives or use the AI label setting, which will launch gradually throughout July in Google Ads, Display & Video 360, Campaign Manager 360, Merchant Center, and Ads Editor to add AI labels to your creatives. Before you begin

Before you begin generating videos, it's recommended that your branding information, such as the brand colours and logo, is set up within Merchant Center. Learn more about how to upload business logos and colours for ads.

Instructions

  1. In your Merchant Center account, go to Product Studio under 'Creative content' in the left navigation menu.
  2. On the Product Studio landing page, select the Theme video card or click the Video themes tab within the Explore section below. You're now ready to create a video following the steps below.

Select a theme

  1. Hover over any of the different templates to play a sample video and note the image requirements and video type below the thumbnail to help you decide which template is right for you.
  2. Select the theme that you'd like to use. Note the required images and required text fields that you'll need to provide in a later step.
  3. Select how you'd like your video orientation: horizontal, vertical or square.
  4. Select if you'd like to use the logo that you have uploaded to Merchant Center or if you'd like to upload a different logo for the video. Uploading a new logo won't replace the logo that you have uploaded in Merchant Center.
  5. Click Select theme.

Choose products

  1. Click Select to choose which products you'd like to showcase in your video.
  2. Select the tick box next to any product that you want to be included in the video, then select Next.

Select product images

For each of the products that you selected above, you'll now be able to choose and arrange which of their product images you'd like to be featured in your video.

  1. Choose from the different methods of selecting product images:
    • Select the drop-down arrow next to each of your product titles to review and select which product images you'd like to showcase in your video.
    • Upload a new image by selecting the drop-down arrow next to 'Your images', then selecting the upload icon .
    • Use the Product Studio image features to update or enhance your product images before adding them to your video.
  2. Select Next.

Add text (optional)

If the theme that you've selected includes text fields, enter your text in this step or select Suggest text to auto-populate text fields. If your selected theme doesn't include text fields, you won't find this step in the video creation flow.

  1. Customise your video by adding a headline or sub-head to your video. These will be displayed throughout your video. The headline typically appears earlier in the video and the sub-head will appear later in the video.
  2. Select Next.

Select style options (optional)

  1. Choose your colours. You have three options for which colours you'd like to use in your video.
    • Theme colour scheme: This option will use a standard colour scheme as in the video example.
    • Your brand colours: This option will use the brand colours that you entered in your business information settings in Merchant Center.
    • Custom colours: Select custom colours from a colour swatch or enter a six-digit hex code in #RRGGBB format.
  2. Choose your fonts. You have two options for which type of font you'd like to use in your video.
    • Theme font: This option will use the font that you find in the example video on the left side of the tool.
    • Custom font: Select any of the different fonts from the font selection tool. To review what the font looks like, select a font, then hover over the information icon information to view a sample of it.
  3. Choose your music. You have three music options for your video.
    • Theme music style: This will use the default music for the theme that you have selected.
    • No music: Your video will be silent.
    • Custom music: Select any of the different music styles from the drop-down. After you have selected one, press the play button Play next to your selection to hear a sample of the music.
  4. Once you've finished customising your video, select Next.

  2. To download your video, select the Low-res button above the video.
  3. To save your video, select the Save button in the bottom-right corner of your screen. This will save a hi-res version of the video to your product listing.
  4. If you'd like to make edits to your video, select Edit video.
    • You'll then be able to update any of the previous steps and then select Generate preview again to create a new video.
  5. Select Done to exit the video creation tool.

Video resolution

High-resolution videos are generated at 720p (1,280x720). They're best for publicly sharing on social media or your website.

Low-resolution videos are generated at 240p (426x240). They're best for quickly sharing with your business or team.

Best practices

Review the following tips to help you create new videos for your brand and products:

Planning your generation

  • Define your video's goal: Know what you want to achieve. Are you announcing a sale, highlighting key features or telling a brand story? This will help you choose the best theme, text and music.
  • Choose the right theme: Preview the different video themes to find which one best fits your product, brand aesthetic and video goal. Pay attention to the image requirements for each theme. The themes provide a framework, but the images that you generate, select and arrange can really make for an intriguing and compelling narrative. Think like a storyteller when you design and structure your example theme video, because it has the authentic potential to guide and inspire merchants.
  • Consider placement: Choose the video orientation (horizontal, vertical or square) based on where you plan to share the video (for example, website or social media platforms).

Using the right inputs

  • Use high-quality images:
    • Start with clear, well-lit and high-resolution product images. The quality of your input images significantly impacts the final video quality.
    • All the images used in a video should add up to 32 MB max. If you go over that amount, the new generation will fail.
    • Horizontal (16:9) and square product or lifestyle images commonly cover all three aspect ratios in the final video generation.
  • Select cohesive product images: When featuring multiple products or images, choose images that are visually consistent in terms of style, lighting and background for a more professional look. Mix up the images with close-ups and medium shots, if possible.
  • Optimise text overlays: Keep any headlines or sub-heads concise, engaging and easy to read. Clearly convey your main message.
  • Utilise branding options: Incorporate your brand colours and logo to maintain brand consistency and recognition.
  • Match music to mood: Select a music style that complements the visuals and the overall tone that you want to convey.

Iterating for the right result

  • Review and iterate: Always generate and watch the preview. Don't hesitate to select 'Edit video' to adjust images, text, colours, fonts or music to refine the output until you're satisfied.
Note: The video generation feature is currently only available to merchants based in Australia, Canada, India, Japan, the UK and the US. As this feature is still experimental, the services may sometimes provide inaccurate or offensive content that doesn't represent Google's views. We continue to make the product better by improving the user experience, output quality, feature set and more.

Delete videos

You can remove videos that you have created in Product Studio if they are no longer needed.

  1. Select Creative content in the left navigation menu.
  2. Select Product Studio.
  3. Select the History tab.
  4. Select Videos to filter the view to show only your video assets.
  5. Browse or search to find the video that you want to delete.
  6. In the right panel, select Delete.
  7. A pop-up box will open and ask you to confirm that you want to delete the video. Select Delete.
Note: Deleting a video is permanent and can't be undone.
