The minimum order value is set in your delivery settings and dictates the minimum spend required for an order. If a product's price is less than the minimum order value, you must set a minimum order quantity for that product to be purchasable. Crucially, only set a minimum order value if you do not deliver orders below that amount. If you offer free delivery above a certain amount but still deliver and charge for lower amounts, do not set a minimum order value.
This article explains how to add a minimum order value to your delivery settings.
How it works
If your delivery service requires a minimum order value and it's higher than any individual product price submitted to Merchant Centre, you must submit the minimum order value in your delivery settings. If you require that a shopper purchase a minimum order quantity for a specific product to be delivered, the minimum order value (MOV) that you submit must be the total price of all products included in that minimum quantity. Shoppers will view this value on your ad so that they know about delivery restrictions before going to your website. Being upfront with this information prevents you from paying for clicks from people who aren't intending to buy additional products.
Even for countries where you're not required to provide the delivery cost, you'll need to provide any minimum order value that you require.
When it shows
Shoppers won't necessarily view the minimum order value on every one of your ads or free product listings. To understand when shoppers will view your minimum order value, bear in mind the following:
- The cheapest delivery cost from the available delivery services for a product will determine whether or not a minimum order value is shown.
- Shoppers will only view the minimum order value when the product's price is lower than the minimum order value.
- Shoppers won't view the minimum order value when the product's price is equal to or greater than the minimum order value.
Instructions
For each delivery service that requires a minimum order value, add this value (for example, GBP 30) in the delivery costs field during setup. In the delivery costs field, you can fill in the order value conditions based on different selections – namely 'Free delivery over a specific order value' and 'No delivery below a specific order value'.
If only certain products are affected, you can apply a minimum order value to only those products with a delivery label:
- First for each product that's affected, use the delivery label
[shipping_label]attribute. - Then, when setting up your delivery settings, filter products by that delivery label.
If the minimum order value can vary by shopper (depending on their membership in a programme, the time of their last order, etc.), provide the minimum order value that would allow shoppers to have their order delivered.
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble setting a minimum order value, try these troubleshooting steps:
- In your Merchant Centre account, from the page menu, select Delivery and returns.
- Ensure that you aren't using the delivery
[shipping]attribute to specify your delivery cost, as this will override the account-level setting. - Check that the minimum order value is higher than the price of any individual product that you are selling.
- If you only want to set a minimum order value for specific products, you can add a delivery label to those products. Then, use that label as a filter when you're configuring your delivery settings.
