The minimum order value is set in your shipping settings and dictates the minimum spend required for an order. If a product's price is less than the minimum order value, you must set a minimum order quantity for that product to be purchasable. Crucially, only set a minimum order value if you do not ship orders below that amount. If you offer free shipping above a certain amount but still ship and charge for lower amounts, do not set a minimum order value.
This article explains how to add a minimum order value to your shipping settings.
How it works
If your shipping service requires a minimum order value, and it’s higher than any individual product price submitted to Merchant Center, you must submit the minimum order value in your shipping settings. If you require that a shopper purchase a minimum order quantity for a specific product to be shipped, the minimum order value (MOV) you submit must be the total price of all products included in that minimum quantity. Shoppers will view this value on your ad so they know about shipping restrictions before going to your website. Being up front with this information prevents you from paying for clicks from people who aren’t intending to buy additional products.
Even for countries where you’re not required to provide shipping cost, you’ll need to provide any minimum order value that you require.
When it shows
Shoppers won’t necessarily view the minimum order value on every one of your ads or free product listings. To understand when shoppers will view your minimum order value, keep in mind the following:
- The cheapest shipping cost from the available shipping services for a product will determine whether or not a minimum order value is shown.
- Shoppers will only view the minimum order value when the product’s price is lower than the minimum order value.
- Shoppers won’t view the minimum order value when the product’s price is equal to or greater than the minimum order value.
Instructions
For each shipping service that requires a minimum order value, add this value (for example, 30 USD) in the Shipping costs field during setup. In the shipping costs field, based on different selections namely “Free shipping over a specific order value” and “No shipping below a specific order value”, you can fill the order value conditions.
If only certain products are affected, you can apply a minimum order value to only those products with a shipping label:
- First for each product that’s affected, use the shipping label
[shipping_label]attribute. - Then when setting up your shipping settings, filter products by that shipping label.
If the minimum order value can vary by shopper (depending on their membership in a program, the time of their last order, etc.), provide the minimum order value that would allow shoppers to get their order shipped.
Troubleshooting
If you are having trouble setting a minimum order value, try these troubleshooting steps:
- In your Merchant Center account, from the page menu, select Shipping and returns.
- Ensure that you aren’t using the shipping
[shipping]attribute to specify your shipping cost, as this will override the account-level setting. - Check that the minimum order value is higher than the price of any individual product you are selling.
- If you only want to set a minimum order value for specific products, you can add a shipping label to those products. Then, use that label as a filter when you're configuring your shipping settings.
