Before you begin
- Identify which products support same-day delivery.
- Identify the cut-off times for the participating shops. You might need to set up a few same-day delivery services to accommodate multiple time zones. Time zones are based on the Merchant Center settings that you provide, not the user location.
- Determine your fees structure, including the delivery fee. We currently don't support additional fees, hence the best practice is to add up all the fees and pass it to Google as one delivery fee (range-based delivery fees are supported).
- Define delivery distance per shop. If the delivery radius varies, you may either set up a separate same-day dispatch policy or opt for a conservative radius.
Eligibility criteria
You can enable same-day delivery annotations and badging for your listings in the United States if you meet the following criteria:
- Your business should provide same-day delivery fulfilment services for eligible products and the same-day delivery settings that you submit to Merchant Center should match what is on your website.
- The delivery cost for the same-day delivery should match the cost mentioned on your website.
- Your listings should be available in the United States.
Eligibility for faster than same-day delivery annotations
In addition to the requirements above, you can also enable faster than same-day delivery annotations, which is an extension of same-day delivery annotation that allows you to showcase your service of providing delivery on Google within minutes or hours, if you meet the following criteria:
- Your business should provide a delivery speed within a five-minute to six-hour timeframe.
- Over 90% of your Google inventory can be delivered within five minutes to six hours.
To express your interest in this new annotation, use the email address of the admin role in your Merchant Center account to contact [email protected] with the following information:
- Your Merchant Center account ID
- Proof of your ability to provide a five-minute to six-hour delivery time. For example, your website delivery policy page URL
Google will periodically check your eligibility to participate in faster than same-day delivery annotations to ensure delivery information consistency and that these annotations won't show when your business stops being eligible for faster than same-day delivery annotations.
If eligible, enabled products will have the 'same-day delivery' option or a 'Get it by [date]' badge. These products will also appear higher in search results when users filter by delivery speed. Learn more about fast delivery in Merchant Center.
Instructions
Set up same-day delivery for online product listings
You can set up same-day delivery for online product listings using the standard delivery policy setup with a few changes in handling and transit time. Additionally, within the same 'standard delivery' same-day delivery policy, you can use the transit time to include destinations eligible for same-day delivery while excluding other destinations.
Create a new delivery policy
- In your Merchant Center account, click Delivery and returns in the left-hand panel.
- You may also click on opportunity cards available in 'Overview' or in 'Delivery and returns'.
- Under the 'Delivery policies' tab, click Add delivery policy and select Delivery for online products.
- Click Add delivery service. You'll then be redirected to the 'Countries' page of the delivery policy setup. You may customise the policy name and select all countries that the delivery policy applies to.
- Note that the same-day delivery feature is currently available in the United States only.
- Select Delivery for online products.
- Click Continue.
Products
- Under 'Products', select from the following options:
- All products: Choose this option if the delivery policy applies to all products in your Merchant Center account.
- Select products: Choose this option to filter specific products based on feed labels. Click here to learn more about delivery labels [Shipping_label]. Select all labels that apply.
- Click Continue.
Delivery times
- Select 'Set a range of delivery times' manually.
- Select an order cut-off time. This is the specific time or the number of hours before which a customer can place an order that will be eligible for same-day delivery.
- Also, select the time zone in which this time is calculated (based on Merchant Center settings, not user location).
- For 'Order handling time', enter the minimum/maximum number of days that are required for processing an order as 0/0.
- For 'Transit time', enter the minimum/maximum number of days that are required for order transit as 0/0.
- You may also specify zones and areas where the same-day dispatch policy applies. Zones can be created and edited with postcodes and later used to define delivery speed.
Delivery cost
- On the 'Delivery cost' page, select the delivery cost that you charge your customers for same-day delivery services. Options include:
- Free delivery over a certain amount
- Free delivery on all orders
- Range-based pricing based on the total value of the order
- Flat fee for all orders.
- In advanced settings, you may specify the delivery cost based on the destination by postcode/area, item weight, item quantity and order price.
- Click Save.
If only a subset of your products is available for same-day delivery, use a delivery label to tag available offers and indicate the name of the delivery label in advanced settings when creating a delivery rate table.
Add same-day delivery for online product listings
Merchant Center provides you with a straightforward way to set up delivery options. If you currently have one delivery policy where the maximum speed is greater than five days, you're eligible to add fast delivery.
There'll be different opportunity cards on the 'Overview' and 'Delivery and returns' pages in Merchant Center. These cards will help you add fast delivery options depending on information that we crawled through the Google StoreBot from your website. Learn more about the Google StoreBot crawler.
When enabled, Google will automatically crawl your product pages and populate delivery information for you. Enable same-day delivery when prompted under 'Delivery time', and click the drop-down menu for 'Max.' Then, select Custom. For 'Days', enter for same day if the product is ready for same-day dispatch and delivery. Click here to learn more about fast delivery in Merchant Center.
Verification
It is important to validate your delivery settings to ensure a positive customer experience. Google verifies same-day delivery services added by retailers, so make sure that the details match what's mentioned on your site. Same-day delivery must be advertised and mentioned on both your website and in the checkout flow.
It might take up to 72 hours for Google to review the settings. If there is an issue with the same-day delivery settings, the administrator of your Merchant Center account will receive an email with instructions on how to resolve the issue.
