How to fix: Vehicle description page errors

Confirm that your vehicle description pages are fully operational and not currently under development.

A vehicle description page is the URL where a customer is sent after clicking on your vehicle ad. If this vehicle description page isn't working or is inaccessible to Google's crawlers (like Google AdsBot), your ad will be disapproved for "Destination not working" or "Destination not accessible". This can happen even if the page loads for you, as crawlers might encounter HTTP errors (like 403, 404, 500), DNS errors, or be blocked by your server settings. A broken or inaccessible vehicle description page creates a poor user experience and is not permitted.

Fix vehicle description page errors

  1. Ensure your link_template, link, or ads_redirect attributes have the correct and expected URL values for your vehicle description pages. If you use tracking templates or redirects, make sure they don't lead to a different domain or a broken page. If you're advertising multiple domains, create separate ad groups for each unique domain. 2. Your ad shouldn’t lead to a website that's under construction or that returns an error page (like HTTP status codes 403, 404, 500). To fix this:
  • Contact your webmaster or developer: This is often a server-side issue. Provide them with the specific URLs and any error details you have. They need to check if server configurations, robots.txt files, or security services (like Cloudflare) are blocking the Google AdsBot user-agent or its IP addresses.
  • Verify DNS settings: If you see DNS errors, your webmaster should work with your domain registrar to ensure DNS records are configured correctly.
  • Test the page: Use tools like Google Search Console's URL Inspection tool to see how Google crawls your page. The page should return a 200 OK status code.
  1. Check that your vehicle description pages work properly for all locations, regardless of where you're targeting your item. Even if your vehicle description page loads successfully for you, it might not be loading properly in other circumstances, such as other web browsers and apps, or by our systems.
  2. Check your vehicle description page on various browsers and devices to make sure that it always links to a working website.
  3. Page not found (404): The vehicle description page was not found on the server. To fix this error, make sure you specify a working URL of the vehicle description page in the link [link] attribute or the optional link template [link_template], or mobile link [mobile_link] attributes.
  4. Too many redirects: Your vehicle description page redirects too many times. To fix this error, make sure your vehicle description page URL doesn't have more than 2 redirects.
  5. Could not connect / HTTP 5xx response: When we tried to access the vehicle description page, the server could not process the request due to an unknown reason. To fix this error, make sure that your website is always available.
  6. Can’t access your robots.txt file: The product page was unavailable for Google to check because your online store's robots.txt file couldn't be reached.
  7. Hostname not resolvable: We were not able to resolve the hostname. To fix this error, make sure that your DNS configuration is set up properly.
  8. URL protocol: The URL set with the link [link] or link template [link_template] attributes on desktop and the mobile link [mobile_link] attribute on mobile must start with http:// or https://. The URL must also use the domain name you verified either when you created your Merchant Center account or in the “Website” tab on the “Business information” page of your Merchant Center account. Replace any symbols used with URL encoded entities, (for example, comma = %2C).
  9. If using the Regional availability and pricing add-on feature: Ensure that all vehicle description pages with region ID can be crawled. For example, URLs like the following should be accessible to Google.
    1. https://mystorewebsite.com/p/myproductlandingpage?region_id=123456
    2. https://mystorewebsite.com/p?offer=myproduct&region_id=123456

Note: An automatic re-review will occur after you fix the issue. This process might take up to 72 hours. If your ad remains disapproved even after you fix the issue, you can submit a manual appeal in your Google Ads account to trigger a re-review. This process might take up to 48 hours. Resolve all vehicle description page and URL issues before you initiate an appeal.
