Conversion tracking allows you to observe the actions that people take on your website after clicking on one of your ads or free listings. This information shows you things like which of your ads or free listings generates the most sales on your online shop.

The easiest way to set up conversion tracking is through the Google & YouTube app on Shopify. Follow the steps below.
- Sign in to your Shopify account and download the 'Google & YouTube' app.
- From your Shopify console, click the search bar and search 'Google and YouTube'.
- You'll be taken to the Shopify app store. Click Install to continue.
- Review the list of permissions required, then click Install to continue.
- If the app isn't connected to Google, click Connect Google Account and choose the Google Account that owns your Ads property.
- Under the 'Just want to set up Google Ads conversion measurement' banner, click Get started.
- Select your 'Google Ads account', then click Connect.
- Click Complete setup.
- Ensure conversion tracking is enabled. Your account is now sending conversion information to Google.
If you prefer not to use Google Ads to track your conversions, we recommend creating a Google Analytics account and linking it within the Google Analytics 4 card within the Google & YouTube app.
Manually edit your conversion measurement events and destinations
After you’ve set up conversion measurement with the Google & YouTube app on Shopify, you can edit your events and destinations by following the steps below.
- In your Google & YouTube app, navigate to the 'Settings' tab.
- Find 'Customer event settings' and click the Manage button.
- In the 'Measure conversions' pop-up, you’ll find a list of Shopify events and destinations.
- Click Manage, then click the pencil icon next to the conversion action that you’d like to change.
- In the pop-up window, make your changes.
- Click Save.
Turn on enhanced conversions
Enhanced conversions is a feature that can improve the accuracy of your conversion measurement and unlock more powerful bidding. It supplements your existing conversion tags by sending hashed first-party conversion data from your website to Google in a privacy-safe way. Learn more about enhanced conversions.
You can turn on enhanced conversions when you first connect your Google Ads account to your Google & YouTube app.
If you’ve already connected your Google Ads account to your Google & YouTube app and still need to turn on enhanced conversions:
- In your Google & YouTube app, navigate to the 'Settings' tab.
- Under 'Google Ads settings', find 'Enhanced conversions' and select Turn on.
- Review and agree to the customer data terms.
Opt out of conversion tracking
If you use Google Ads, deactivating conversion tracking may severely impact your campaigns’ performance unless you have set it up manually. In addition, if you use YouTube store or Google Analytics, conversion tracking is required.
When you opt out of conversion tracking, you will deactivate tracking for both ads and free listings. If you would still like to opt out of conversion tracking, follow the steps below:
When you first set up your Google & YouTube app on Shopify:
- During the onboarding flow, navigate to the 'Conversion tracking' box and click Remove.
After your account has been set up:
- In your Google & YouTube app, navigate to the 'Settings' tab
- Find the 'Conversion tracking' box and click Remove.
- If you use either YouTube store or Google Analytics, you’ll need to first deactivate these programs in 'Settings' before you can remove conversion tracking
