Use Meet on Android Auto

To safely join meetings and make calls from your personal account while you drive, you can use Google Meet on Android Auto. It provides a simplified, audio-focused experience designed to reduce distractions.

Important: Work profile accounts aren't supported in Meet on Android Auto. Active calls will still appear on your display but upcoming meetings and call history will not show.

Learn what you need to use Android Auto

  • A vehicle that supports Android Auto.
  • A connection between your Android phone to your vehicle through Bluetooth or a USB cable.
  • An updated Meet app on your Android device.

Tip: If you're not signed into Meet, you receive a prompt to sign in.

Join a meeting or call

Important: Calls and meetings joined from Android Auto skip the pre-call screen.

  1. Connect your phone to your vehicle through Bluetooth or a USB cable.
  2. Tap Android Auto.
  3. On your Android Auto display, tap the Meet app .

Join a scheduled meeting

  1. On your Android Auto display, tap the Scheduled tab.
    • This tab shows your upcoming meetings.
  2. From the list, select a meeting.
  3. Tap Join.
    • Your video is off automatically.
    • Your microphone might be automatically muted if you join a large meeting.

Call a recent contact or a group

  1. On your Android Auto display, tap the History tab.
  2. Select the person or group you want to call.

Tips:

  • You join the meeting on both your Android phone and car display.
  • If the host turns on a waiting room, you get a status message on your screen until they admit you.
  • Your audio switches automatically.
    • When you connect your phone to Android Auto: Your audio transfers from your phone or earbuds to the car's speakers.
    • When you disconnect your phone from Android Auto: Your audio returns to your phone, earbuds, or the previously used output device.
  • If you need to use video or other features, such as Chat or Polls, safely park your car. Then, use your mobile phone to do so on the Meet app.

Use in-meeting controls

While in a meeting or call, use the controls on your car's display:

  • Mute or unmute: To change your audio, tap Mic .
  • Leave a meeting: To exit and return to the Meet home screen, tap Hang up .

Answer calls

Your car's screen shows the caller's info for incoming calls.

  • To answer the call, tap Answer.
  • To ignore the call, tap Decline.

Manage permissions & setup

If you use the app for the first time or haven't granted permissions, you may receive an "Attention" prompt:

  • When safe, check your Android phone for permission prompts.
  • To turn on calling features, grant mic access.
  • To continue the use of car display, make sure you acknowledge any privacy prompts on your phone.

Learn more about the in-call experience

  • Safe driving mode: When you start a meeting or call from Android Auto, your phone automatically enters On-the-Go mode. This shows a simplified mobile UI.
  • Display: Only the call info and controls are visible, not presentations or other participants.
  • Audio notifications: If a meeting is being recorded, transcribed, or using Gemini, you hear spoken notifications.
  • Limited interactions: To meet safety standards while you drive, you can't use features like Hand Raise, Q&A, or Polls.
  • Breakout rooms: If a breakout room is created, you automatically move into it. When the breakout room session ends, you return to the main room.

Note: Meeting hosts can't admit or reject participants from the car controls.
