Ask Gemini processes and analyzes the meeting discussion to create summaries and responses. It may also refer to:
- The Calendar event for the meeting to identify who has joined.
- Files and emails that you have access to within Workspace.
- Content from Google search and public websites to create responses.
This feature doesn’t create a recording or store meeting data after the meeting ends.
Gemini in Workspace can make mistakes, including about people, so users should review its output. Don’t rely on Gemini features for medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.

Get started with Ask Gemini in Google Meet
- In the meeting you’re in, at the top right, click
click Ask Gemini a question
.
- This feature auto-starts after 2 participants join the meeting, or the meeting host can turn it on manually.
- In the side panel, you can:
- Select a suggested prompt
- Write your own prompt
- At the bottom in the prompt box, enter a prompt.
- Click Enter.
- Optional: To remove your history, click More options

Turn Ask Gemini in Google Meet on or off
Important:
- Only hosts and co-hosts can turn Ask Gemini in Meet on or off for individual meetings.
- If it’s required to turn off Ask Gemini in Google Meet, make sure at least one host joins the meeting or designates a co-host.
- If a meeting host leaves the company, administrators must cancel or transfer their events before they delete the user account. Learn how to cancel or transfer calendar events.
- Within a meeting, go to Host controls

- Under “Gemini” section, turn Gemini on or off.
Tip: If Ask Gemini in Google Meet is turned off for a meeting, “take notes for me” will also be turned off.
Meeting hosts can also turn Ask Gemini on or off before a meeting starts:
- On your computer, go to calendar.google.com.
- Click the event or meeting you want to turn Ask Gemini on or off.
- From the pop-up menu, click Edit event

- If your event doesn’t have a meeting attached, click Add Google Meet video conferencing.
- Click Video call options

- If you don't want meeting attendees to use Gemini, turn off Meeting attendees can use Ask Gemini.
Tips on how to use Ask Gemini in Google Meet
Summarize meeting discussions- On your computer, go to meet.google.com.
- Select a meeting.
- At the top right, click Ask Gemini a question
.
- In the side panel, select a prompt or create your own.
- Example: "Summarize the meeting so far."
- Click Enter.
For example, you can write:
- “Give me an overview of what was discussed.”
- “Give me detailed meeting notes.”
- “What decisions were made?"
Important: This feature is available only if “take notes for me” was turned on before you joined a meeting. If “take notes for me" is turned on and you join a meeting late, you can use Ask Gemini to catch up on meeting details.
For example, you can write:
- “Catch me up on what was discussed.”
- “What did I miss?”
Ask Gemini in Google Meet can help you catch up on meeting discussions that happened after you joined the meeting. You can get information on meeting attendees from Calendar with Ask Gemini.
For example, you can ask:
- “Is John on the call?”
- “How many people are on this call?”
- “Who’s speaking right now?”
To check files attached to the meeting invite, Ask Gemini can search for information based on permissions.
For example, you can ask:
- “Summarize meeting attachments.”
- “Summarize @<filename>.”
Tip: To reference your Workspace files, enter “@” before the file name.

Your meeting experience is private with Ask Gemini in Google Meet. No one else can access your private conversations and they’re visible only to you. To create summaries and responses, Ask Gemini processes and analyzes the meeting discussion. This feature won’t create a recording or store any data after the meeting. If you’re a meeting participant and not the host, you can ask the meeting host to turn this feature off for everyone in the meeting.
If you disable Smart features, you’ll be unable to prompt Ask Gemini. However, others in the meeting will still be able to use Ask Gemini. Learn about smart features and controls in Google products.
Meeting host considerations
- The meeting host can turn off the feature at any time in the meeting.
- Meeting hosts should confirm consent from external participants when they use Ask Gemini in Google Meet during meetings.
- Meeting hosts should ensure that any users who join a meeting via dial-in are aware that they can ask the host to disable it.

Troubleshoot
You might not be able to use Ask Gemini in Google Meet because of these reasons:
- The meeting organizer doesn't have a Workspace Edition that includes Ask Gemini in Google Meet.
- Your admin might have disabled this feature for you.
- Smart feature control is turned off. Learn about smart features and controls in Google products.
- If you turn off smart features, you can’t use Ask Gemini in Google Meet. However, others in the meeting will still be able to use Ask Gemini in Google Meet to process and analyze all meeting attendees communications.
- The meeting host has turned off Ask Gemini for this meeting or has Smart feature control turned off.
- If you’re the only one in the meeting, wait for another person to join to use Ask Gemini in Google Meet.
Other considerations
- To receive prior notice about Ask Gemini before you join a meeting, update your mobile app to the latest version.
- Ask Gemini isn’t intended to be used for generating transcripts. Instead, you can use Transcripts.

As Gemini continues to learn, it might not support some requests.
If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or you feel is unsafe, you can submit feedback. Feedback data does not contain personal, sensitive, or confidential information:
- Below the generated output, click Good suggestion
or Bad suggestion

- If you click Bad suggestion
, select the issue you found.
- Enter additional feedback.
- Click Submit.
