Contacts available for Meet calls are sourced from 2 locations:
- Your local device contacts: When you sign up, you need to allow OS level contact permissions.
- For personal accounts: When you onboard, you can save local contact info from your signed in devices. No matter which device you use, this data makes these contacts easier to interact with across Google services. To turn this off, go to https://myactivity.google.com/devicecontacts.
- Google Contacts:
- Contacts you created.
- Other contacts: When you interact with someone new in Google services, these records are automatically created. They show in “Search” and under “Suggested.” Learn more about who shows up as suggestions.
- Frequently contacted: These are the people you interact with the most in Google services.

How come my incoming or outgoing call screen says one name, but in the call I see a different name? The incoming and outgoing call screens use your saved contact information from contacts.google.com. In the call, we show that contact’s preferred Google Profile name.
If you don’t consent to share your local device contacts with Google, we can’t show whether a person is reachable or not when you search for them. To resolve this, you can give permission to share your device contacts with Google and they’ll also be available across all your devices.
To turn on permission to share your device contacts with Google:
- Go to https://myactivity.google.com/devicecontacts.
- Turn on Save contact info from your signed-in devices.
When you interact with people on Google services, you may automatically save them as a contact. Learn more about this setting and how to turn it off.
