To search and add stops along your route, use Google Maps on Apple CarPlay. You can find details about your stops, like gas prices and detour times.
What you need
- iPhone 5 and above
- iOS 12 and above
- Google Maps version 5.24 and above
- CarPlay supported car model
Navigate via CarPlay
- On your CarPlay, open the Google Maps app

- In the top bar, tap Add destination.
- Select a destination.
- Tap Go.
Report traffic incidents
Important: Some incidents can only be reported in certain countries.
Add a report during navigation
To help improve Maps, you can share info along your route. Reports may appear on the map where you’re on your route:
- While you navigate, on the side of your screen, tap Report
.
- On the “Report” screen, select the type of incident you want to report:
- Crash
- Slowdown
- Mobile speed camera
- Police
- Construction
- Lane closure
- Object on road
- Flooded road
- Low visibility
- Unplowed road
- Crash
Tip: Only make a report if it's safe to do so.
Add a report outside of navigation
- On your CarPlay, open the Google Maps app
- On the side of your screen, tap Report
- On the “Report” screen, select the type of incident you want to report.
Find & vote on traffic incidents reported by others
If another user reports on the Maps, you’ll find it on the map as you move closer during navigation. Based on your alert settings, you might also hear an alert.
When you’re near the incident, you’ll find a prompt that asks “Is this still here?” To let other users know if the report is still true, tap Yes or No.
Turn alerts on or off
- On your CarPlay, open the Google Maps app
- Tap Settings

- To turn on alerts, tap All alerts.
- If you want to turn off alerts, tap None.

- To show the top menu bar, tap anywhere on the screen while you navigate.
- Tap Add Stop.
- Select a destination:
- Gas stations
- Restaurants
- Grocery stores
- Coffee shops
- Search

- Find a specific place:
McDonald’s. - Find a type of place:
drugstore.
Tip: These categories may be different based on your location.

Tip: The arrows only appear if there’s more than one search result. - Tap Add stop.

.Remove a stop
- On your CarPlay: At the top right, tap Exit
- On your iPhone: Tap X next to the stop you want to remove.
Tip: If you don’t find your route information on your iPhone, tap the home button to find your stops.
Use voice search
- To show the top menu bar, tap anywhere on the screen while you navigate.
- Tap Add stop
