Join meetings from Gmail

From Gmail, you can use Meet to schedule and join meetings. 

To use Meet in Gmail, you need:

Show or hide Meet in Gmail

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu and then Settings.
  3. Select the account for which you would like to configure this setting.
  4. Under "Meet," next to “Show the Meet tab for video calling,” check or uncheck the box.

Create a new meeting from Gmail

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Meet Camera and then New meeting.
  3. Select an option:
    • Get a meeting link to share: This creates a link to a new meeting, which you can share with others.
      • For work or school accounts, tap Get joining info to share.
    • Start an instant meeting: This creates a new meeting which you immediately join. Once in the meeting, you can share the invite with others.
    • Schedule in Google Calendar: This opens the Google Calendar app, where you can schedule an event and share it with others.
  4. To finish, follow the on-screen instructions to create the meeting.

Join a meeting from Gmail

Important: If you have a personal Google Account, you can only use a meeting code to join a meeting.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
  2. At the bottom, tap Meet Camera.
  3. Select Join with a code.
    • If you have a work or school account, select Join a meeting.
  4. Enter the meeting information from the organizer. This can be a:
    • Meeting nickname, like “mymeeting”
    • Code, like “abc-mnop-xyz”
  5. Tap Join.

Tip: Meeting codes expire. Before you join, check the expiration date of the meeting code. Learn about meeting codes in Google Meet.
