When you mute a conversation, the replies you receive skip your inbox and go directly to your archive. This keeps your inbox clean from long email threads.
After you mute a message:
- The message is labeled as "Muted."
- You can still receive a message in your inbox if:
- The message is only sent to you.
- The message is sent to a Google Group you’re in.
- Someone adds you to the “To” or “Cc” fields.
Mute a message
- On your computer, open Gmail.
- Check the box next to the message.
- At the top, click More
Mute.
Tips:
- To find a muted message: In the search bar at the top of Gmail, enter:
is:muted
- To mute a message with keyboard shortcuts:
- Check the box next to the message.
- Press M.

Unmute a message
- On your computer, open Gmail.

- Check the box next to the message.
- At the top, click More
Unmute.
