Learn how to fix problems with the Google TV virtual remote

If your Google TV virtual remote isn't working, this article can help fix it.

Check your Wi-Fi connection

Important: To use your phone as a remote, your phone and TV must be on the same Wi-Fi network.

To check or change the connection on your TV:

  1. From the Google TV home screen, at the top right, go to the profile icon.
  2. Tap Settings and then Network & Internet.
  3. Confirm the “Wi-Fi” is on and you’re connected to the correct network.
    • If necessary, select the network you want to connect to.
    • If necessary, enter the password.

To check or change the connection on your iPhone or iPad:

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app.
  2. To find your network or select a different network, tap Internet.
Restart your Google TV
  1. On your Google TV, unplug the power cord.
  2. Wait for 10 seconds.
  3. Plug in the power cord.
  4. Set up the virtual remote again.
Check your remote's volume settings
  1. From the Google TV home screen, at the top right, go to the profile icon.
  2. Tap Settings and then Remotes & Accessories and then Set up remote buttons.
  3. Tap Volume control.
  4. Confirm "Volume control" is set to "Auto (CEC)."
