Cast movies & shows to a TV

You can play movies and shows from another device on your TV with a Chromecast, Google TV Streamer (4K), or TV with Google Cast.

Important: Make sure your computer is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast, Google TV Streamer (4K), or TV with Google Cast.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. Go to play.google.com.
  3. At the top right, click your profile icon.
  4. Click Library & devices and then Movies & TV.
  5. Find the movie or show you want to watch, then click Play.
  6. At the top, click Cast Cast.
  7. Under "Connect to a device," select your Chromecast from the device list.
    • To disconnect, click Cast Cast and then Stop casting.

Video controls

You can pause, rewind, or fast forward the video on your TV with the Google Play Movies player on your computer.

Tip: Keep the video player open when you use your computer with Google Cast. Your computer’s playback controls don’t work when:
  • The video player is closed
  • The computer is turned off
  • Your internet connection is lost

Cast videos with a Chromebook

If the Google Play Store is available on your Chromebook, you can cast videos from the Google TV app. Learn which Chromebooks support Android apps.
  1. On your Chromebook, open Google TV .
  2. At the top of your video player, click Cast Cast.
  3. Under "Connect to a device," select your Chromecast from the device list.
  4. Select a video.
  5. Click Watch.

To disconnect from your Chromecast, click Cast Cast and then Stop casting.

Add the Cast button to Chrome toolbar

You can pin the Cast button to your Chrome toolbar to easily access the Cast functionality from any web page.

  1. In the top right corner of the Chrome browser, click Menu More and then Cast.
  2. Cast Cast will temporarily appear in your toolbar. Right-click on Cast Cast and then Always show icon.

Playback tips

  • HD movie rentals play in HD on Google Cast even if your phone isn't capable of HD playback.
  • Google Cast continues to play your video when your phone or tablet runs out of battery. To access video controls again, connect another device to the Google Cast. To save battery, turn off your device’s screen during playback.
  • If you're signed in to YouTube, make sure that you're signed in with the same Google Account.
